Jujutsu Kaisen Timeline: The Battle Between Gojo and Sukuna, the Strongest Sorcerers
Gojo’s release from the Prison Realm
Based on the estimated Jujutsu Kaisen timeline shared by Yuji and his companions, Gojo spent approximately 19 days in the Prison Realm starting from Halloween. This means that his imprisonment would have ended on November 19th, 2018, as seen in chapter 221 of the series. Gojo’s release from the Prison Realm was made possible by the combined efforts of Angel and Toge, who used their powers to open the back gate of Jujutsu High Training Ground No. 4 located in the Kiroko Minne of Saitama Prefecture.
Despite not appearing in that location, Gojo teleported directly to where Kenjaku, Sukuna, and Uraume were. Following some exchange of words, Gojo launched an attack. Despite Sukuna managing to rescue Kenjaku, Uraume was almost fatally struck by a single punch from Gojo. Since Gojo had other obligations to attend to, the ultimate battle between the two strongest opponents was scheduled for December 24th, 2018.
Despite being a commonly used phrase in jokes, chapter 221 concluded with Gojo expressing his confidence in winning. The two opponents then began to prepare for the day, each using their own methods.
Preparations for a Successful Day
Afterwards, the focus shifted to the preparations for the upcoming battle, as depicted in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 222. It was a highly anticipated one-on-one match between the two most powerful opponents, both of whom required time to get ready. Sukuna’s preparation involved consuming his mummified corpse to make up for the missing final finger, as he knew he would need every ounce of power he could muster for this crucial fight.
Each individual made their own preparations: Yuta, Maki, Yuji, and the other powerhouses of Jujutsu High trained tirelessly. Kenjaku shifted his focus towards eliminating the remaining players in the Culling Game, while Gojo strategized with the remaining Jujutsu High faculty.
According to Chapter 261, Gojo resorted to killing all the Jujutsu higher-ups in order for Gakuganji to successfully take over. Meanwhile, a contingency plan was devised by Yuta: to have Rika consume Kenjaku, learn the body-swapping technique, and ultimately take over Gojo’s body as a last resort.
December 24th: The Battle Begins
The Jujutsu Society’s fate was determined on December 24th, 2018, as depicted in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 223 of the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline. The first strike came in the form of a powerful Hollow Purple attack from Gojo, strengthened by Utahine Iori’s Solo Forbidden Area technique, Ichji’s barrier and talismans, and Gakuganji’s musical accompaniment.
The outcome was a Hollow Purple that was amplified by 200%, causing it to race through the 4.6km, equivalent to approximately 2.5 miles, stretch from Shibuya to Shinjuku. This caused severe damage to numerous buildings, roads, and even the skyscraper where Sukuna was anticipating Gojo’s arrival. Despite this, Sukuna was able to regenerate his two reinforced arms using reverse cursed techniques.
Both Gojo and Sukuna exchange taunts during their fight, with Gojo referring to Sukuna as the “challenger”while Sukuna retaliates by calling Gojo a helpless fish on the chopping block.
Shinjuku Destruction as the Clash Begins
Following some more taunting between them, which involved Gojo vowing to remove Sukuna from Megumi’s body and Sukuna menacingly threatening to slice Gojo like a fish, the two engaged in a fierce battle in chapter 224 of Jujutsu Kaisen. The initial confrontation involved hand-to-hand combat until Gojo utilized his abilities of Infinity and Blue to hurl Sukuna through a skyscraper.
Sukuna’s first move was to try using Dismantle, but he missed Gojo and ended up slicing through a skyscraper instead. He then attempted to use Domain Amplification to overcome Gojo’s Limitless ability. However, Gojo swiftly countered by seizing Sukuna’s fist and propelling them both through the skyscraper, until their clash resulted in a powerful release of cursed energy.
Despite the fact that Mei Mei was broadcasting it live, the skyscraper collapsed into pieces while they emerged unscathed. Gojo was the only one concerned about the level of destruction.
Domain Expansion Clash
Chapter 225 serves as a brief hiatus from the ongoing battle, focusing instead on the events leading up to the end of this particular part of the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline. The majority of the chapter consists of reaction shots from Gojo’s allies as they speculate on the outcome of the fight and possible strategies. A major factor in the fight is the use of Domain Expansions by both combatants, leading the heroes to question why neither of them has attempted to utilize this powerful technique.
Despite being thought to be impossible, Choso’s shocking revelation is proven true as he discloses that Sukuna is capable of expanding his domain without the need for an enclosing barrier. In an intense exchange, both Sukuna and Choso expand their Domains simultaneously, causing a collision between Unlimited Void and Malevolent Shrine. This collision proves to be advantageous for Sukuna, as Malevolent Shrine extends beyond Gojo’s barrier, giving him the opportunity to tear it apart and successfully slash at Gojo’s neck.
Gojo is on the defensive
Despite Gojo’s Limitless being unavailable, he was still vulnerable to attacks. In Chapter 226, we see the consequences as Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine repeatedly assails Gojo. Although his Reverse Cursed Technique was able to heal the constant slashes, it was not a permanent solution. Furthermore, Gojo could not rely on teleportation as it relied on the Limitless technique.
After utilizing Simple Domain to defend against the relentless slashes, Gojo resorted to a stalling tactic. He then cleverly baited Sukuna with close-combat techniques and ultimately hurled him into his own shrine using Red. This maneuver allowed Gojo to catch his breath and regroup.
The Jujutsu Kaisen timeline saw a significant escalation in the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight at this point.
The Domain Barrier Shrinks
In chapter 227 of the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline, the intense battle between Gojo and Sukuna reaches a new level as Gojo skillfully counters Sukuna’s overwhelming advantages. This pivotal moment in the fight also merits further explanation as both fighters start resorting to seemingly impossible tactics to keep the battle raging.
Sukuna and Gojo both alter the circumstances within their respective Domains. Sukuna employs a Binding Vow and physically touches Gojo in an attempt to neutralize his Limitless power. Meanwhile, Gojo utilizes Falling Blossom Emotion to deflect Sukuna’s attacks while the Domain Barrier gradually diminishes in size.
Double Domain Collapse
According to Chapter 228 of the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline, the barrier reduced in size, resulting in Sukuna’s Domain doubling its output. This led to a stalemate as both Sukuna and Gojo were equally affected – Sukuna destroyed Gojo’s Domain from the outside, while Gojo damaged Sukuna to the point where he could no longer maintain his own Domain.
During the three-minute barrier, Gojo maintained the upper hand as he and Sukuna exchanged blows, utilizing debris, their fists, and their agility. Gojo also strategized, attempting to figure out Sukuna’s plan and considering the possibility of using the Ten Shadows or Mahoraga within the Domain to swiftly end the fight. As the chapter came to a close, Gojo noticed the halo of Mahoraga.
Unlimited Void Collides with Sukuna, Summoning Mahoraga
The pivotal moment in the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline is Chapter 229, when the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight reaches its climax. To an onlooker, it seems clear that Gojo would emerge victorious in a pure Domain battle without Sukuna’s Domain Amplification. The two Domains collide once more, but this time Sukuna is caught off guard for a mere 0.01 seconds, allowing Gojo to quickly heal and restore his cursed technique.
As Unlimited Void is activated and Malevolent Shrine crumbles, Gojo seizes the opportunity to destroy Sukuna’s immobilized heart. However, Mahoraga is summoned to aid Sukuna, preventing Gojo from delivering the final blow. Despite the odds, Mahoraga surprisingly adapts to Unlimited Void and engages in battle with Gojo.
Round 2 Begins and Explanations are Provided
Chapter 230 offers the necessary explanation for Mahoraga’s rapid adaptation. It is revealed that the two Domain Expansions had a total of five instances where their effects nullified each other. However, Sukuna intervened and transferred the damage from Mahoraga’s adaptation to Megumi’s soul. He then compelled Megumi to adapt to Unlimited Void by utilizing the 10 Shadows.
Despite Gojo’s confidence in his ability to reopen his domain and neutralize Sukuna’s aid, his efforts proved to be in vain. The strain of overusing his healing powers had caused significant damage to Gojo’s brain. As Sukuna mocked and belittled Gojo, he soon realized that he too had been affected by the same damage. As a result, neither of them were able to perform Domain Expansions any longer.
A lethal countdown
With the elimination of Domain Expansions, Chapter 231 witnessed Sukuna and Gojo engaging in a high-speed and fist-heavy confrontation. The noteworthy aspects of this particular phase of the battle are as follows: Gojo’s punches are amplified by Blue, resulting in double the impact; both Gojo and Sukuna deliver powerful physical blows to each other; and their attention is caught by the spinning wheel of Mahoraga.
Five domain clashes were necessary for adaptation to Unlimited Void. After the wheel turns three times, it requires three more spins to adapt to Infinity. Despite this, Gojo remains unfazed and assures confidently that he will defeat Sukuna before reaching that point. However, the rest of the group is concerned about Gojo potentially harming both Sukuna and Megumi.
Sukuna is knocked out, Mahoraga adapts to Infinity
By the time of chapter 232, there are two significant events that impact the outcome of the fight. Firstly, Sukuna is severely injured and rendered unconscious by Gojo’s Red and Blue hand-to-hand technique. Secondly, Mahoraga successfully adapts to Gojo’s Infinity technique and inflicts a deep slash on his shoulder.
The details are as described. Gojo and Sukuna engage in a fierce battle, with Gojo strategically utilizing Blue to draw attention away from his powerful Red technique. Despite being caught off guard by Sukuna’s use of Domain Amplification, Gojo manages to delay the explosion of his Red ability. In a surprise turn of events, Sukuna is defeated by a massive Black Flash and rendered unconscious. However, as Mahoraga falls, its spinning halo causes it to grab onto Gojo.
Mahoraga, Agito, and Sukuna vs. Mahoraga, Agito, and Sukuna Gojo: Battle of the Titans
Megumi, the most powerful summon, had begun its battle against Gojo by striking his shoulder. Despite his exhaustion and slower healing wounds, as well as a decrease in his cursed energy output, Gojo persisted in moving and fighting fiercely, as shown in chapter 233. While he does recall his defeat by Toji Fushiguro, Gojo is filled with contentment and gratification rather than despair.
Despite being heavily outnumbered by Mahoraga, Sukuna, and several summoned shikigami, Gojo puts up a fierce and brutal fight. The Nue: Totality – Merged Beast Agito, one of the most prominent and relentless shikigami, continually attacks Gojo alongside Mahoraga. Additionally, Sukuna persistently appears in Gojo’s shadow until he is banished by Gojo crushing the ground.
The allies argue as Gojo loses an arm
As the battle gradually shifted against Gojo, the students and other jujutsu sorcerors found themselves in disagreement. Yuta, Maki, and Yuji were determined to assist Gojo, knowing he was outnumbered. However, Mei Mei, Hakari, Kusakabe, and Kashimo all argued against it, citing that Uraume still posed a threat, Kenjaku should be the main target, and Sukuna would need to be dealt with afterwards.
In Chapter 234, the chaotic circumstances surrounding Gojo continue to escalate with a few added complexities. Sukuna himself warns that taking Hollow Purple at that moment would likely result in his death. In the midst of the chaos, Mahoraga successfully cuts off Gojo’s right arm. However, Gojo quickly adapts by utilizing maximum output of Blue to defeat Agito and begins the process of restoring his arm.
Despite Mahoraga’s halo spinning at maximum power, Gojo only had 41 seconds until Hollow Purple could be used again.
Hollow: Purple Unleashed
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 235 marks the pinnacle of the intense battle between Gojo and Sukuna. Gojo’s numerous Black Flashes provide him with the necessary energy to keep fighting. Despite this, he decides to cast Red, but instead of aiming it at Mahoraga or Sukuna, he throws it up into the air.
Despite an attempt to destroy Blue, Gojo successfully utilized Blue’s field of attraction to boost and intercept Mahoraga. Despite Sukuna’s failed attempt to intercept Red and Blue, the Purple ultimately exploded, resulting in the disintegration of Mahoraga and severe injuries to both Sukuna and Gojo. However, Gojo sustained less severe injuries compared to Sukuna.
Kusakabe expressed his optimism, stating that Gojo had successfully regained his cursed energy output and emerged victorious against Sukuna.
And the Oscar goes to…
Many fans of Jujutsu Kaisen consider Chapter 236 to be a significant moment in the series, as it marks a milestone in the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline. In this chapter, it is revealed that Gojo was bisected by Mahoraga’s Dismantle technique, which was its final attack before disintegrating. Despite being targeted by this powerful technique, Gojo was still able to adapt and overcome it with his Infinity ability.
The events were not shown on screen, as Sukuna was the one to recount the experience of his epic battle with Gojo. The scene also depicts Gojo meeting with the deceased, such as the true Suguru Geto, Kento Nanami, Masamichi Yaga, Riko Amanai, Yu Haibara, and Misato Kuroi.
Despite emerging victorious in the fight, Ryomen Sukuna did not do so unscathed. The intense battle resulted in the destruction of Mahoraga and Agito, leaving Sukuna with lasting difficulties in facing the remaining jujutsu sorcerers due to the injuries sustained in the fight.
Will Gojo Return?!
As the epic battle against Ryomen Sukuna raged on, Choso made the ultimate sacrifice to protect Yuji. In a surprising turn of events, Aoi Todo reappeared to offer his assistance. Despite being pushed to his limits from enduring countless attacks, Sukuna was met with the unexpected return of Satoru Gojo in Chapter 261, seemingly resurrected to provide further support.
As seen in Chapter 261, Yuta is currently inhabiting Gojo’s body. This was made possible when Yuta decapitated Kenjaku in Chapter 243 and had Rika consume his corpse, allowing her to copy his innate technique. Despite being bisected by Sukuna, Shoko, Arata, and Rin were able to quickly transfer Yuta’s brain into Gojo’s body.
The reprisal match began with Unlimited Void once again engaging in a clash with Malevolent Shine, just as it had at the start of the initial battle.
Final Thoughts: A Fight for the Ages
Finally, the highly anticipated showdown between Gojo and Sukuna, the two strongest characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, took place. Fans had been eagerly waiting for this clash since their first encounter in the early chapters of the manga and anime. The epic battle has now solidified its place in anime history, as evident by its inclusion in the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline.
With chapter 261 marking the return of Gojo for a rematch, fans are optimistic that this could be the final battle to put an end to Sukuna’s reign of terror. Even if the outcome is not immediate, the events that have transpired since the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight have pushed Sukuna to even greater extremes as his body and soul continue to deteriorate from the repeated damage.
