Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji learned Domain Expansion from a teacher, but it wasn’t Gojo

After what seems like an eternity, Jujutsu Kaisen has fulfilled fans’ long-awaited desires. In the latest chapter, numbered 264, protagonist Yuji Itadori finally unveils his Domain, leaving readers on a thrilling high.

Ever since Domain Expansion was introduced as a technique, there has been ongoing speculation about what Yuji’s Domain Expansion would entail. As the series continued, the young boy with pink hair showed remarkable growth and development, quickly mastering various Jujutsu sorcery techniques.

At the crucial moment of the Shinjuku Showdown, Yuji unveiled his trump card, revealing that the only thing he had previously seemed to lack was Domain Expansion, the pinnacle of Jujutsu. Surprisingly, it was not Gojo Satoru, but Atsuya Kusakabe who had aided him in achieving this feat, as stated in the chapter.

Despite popular belief, it was not Gojo who tutored Yuji at Jujutsu High. Instead, it was Kusakabe, another teacher at the school, who ultimately helped Yuji unlock his Domain Expansion. As fans may remember from chapter 222 of Jujutsu Kaisen, it was revealed that Yuji had a Soul Swapping Technique that allowed him to switch bodies.

Before the Shinjuku Showdown, Yuji dedicated himself to intense training in preparation for his confrontation with Ryomen Sukuna. He honed his hand-to-hand combat abilities and familiarized himself with Simple Domain techniques under the guidance of Kusakabe.

Despite not possessing a Cursed Technique, Kusakabe has honed his skills in Sword Techniques and Simple Domains, making him a formidable mentor for Yuji in Gojo’s absence.

It should not be misinterpreted that Gojo’s guidance also played a role in Yuji’s Domain Expansion moment. During his confrontation with Jogo, Gojo nonchalantly brought Yuji along to observe his showdown with the Disaster Curse. While it was more of a one-sided display rather than a true fight, his demonstration proved to be crucial.

While they were both confined within Jogo’s Domain, Gojo took the opportunity to educate Yuji about the nature of a Domain and its abilities. He described how it acts as a guaranteed-hit effect and provides buffs to its user, similar to those in a video game. Additionally, he demonstrated a Domain battle by creating his own within Jogo’s. This experience further solidified the boy’s understanding of this advanced technique, as seen in the flashback.

Despite considering all options, Yuji ultimately decided to utilize his Domain Expansion, a crucial move that will likely determine the outcome of the ultimate showdown. Throughout the battle, Sukuna has consistently displayed a knack for countering any attack thrown his way. Even in the most improbable of scenarios, he always had a response ready to strike back.

Despite having used two consecutive Black Flashes, Sukuna’s Reverse Cursed Technique has been replenished. However, this may not prove to be as advantageous now that Yuji has activated his Domain Expansion. As shown in the chapter, the duo has been transported to an unfamiliar location with Sukuna once again inhabiting Yuji’s physical form.

The features of Yuji’s Domain remain a mystery, but it is possible that it will simply be a traditional one-on-one fight without much use of Cursed Energy or flashy techniques. This theory holds merit since this is how Yuji started his journey, relying solely on his fists and brute strength.
