Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji’s Potential Rika Could Be a Risky Move for Akutami

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 259, which featured the death of Choso at the hands of Ryomen Sukuna, was met with frustration from many fans. Choso, a beloved character in the fandom, has sparked discussions among fans who are proposing that he be “cursed”similar to Yuta Okkotsu’s childhood friend, Rika Orimoto. This would allow Choso to assist his brother Yuji Itadori in combat as a Curse.

Although there is some validity to the theory due to Choso’s alignment with the established criteria in Jujutsu Kaisen, it would be a grave error for author Gege Akutami to follow through with it. Akutami has cultivated a reputation as a mangaka unafraid to sacrifice beloved characters, adding depth to the plot and creating suspense. Therefore, choosing to subject Choso to the same fate as “Rika”would ultimately hinder the progression of the story.

Please note that this article contains spoilers for the series.

Can Choso make a comeback in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Due to Choso’s unique status as a half-human and half-Curse, also known as a Cursed Womb, he possessed the ability to reincarnate as a complete Curse. Driven by his desire to assist his brother Yuji Itadori, Choso could potentially follow in the footsteps of Rika Orimoto and transform into a Curse to aid Yuta Okkotsu.

It has been demonstrated in the manga that Choso has the potential to become a Curse who is determined to assist Yuji in combat. This has been exemplified through the character of Rika. Additionally, we have seen Naoya Zen’in transform into a Curse as a result of his animosity towards his cousin Maki, who had killed him. Therefore, there are previous instances of human characters following this path.

The Potential Consequences of Reviving Choso in Jujutsu Kaisen

Choso’s death occurred in episode 259 of the manga as he bravely shielded his brother Yuji from an attack by Ryomen Sukuna. If he were to return as a Curse in the manga, it would cheapen his sacrifice and diminish the significance of his final moments with Yuji.

Despite having in-canon explanations, it would be unwise for author Gege Akutami to backtrack on his reputation as a mangaka who can skillfully portray the lives of beloved characters such as Nanami Kento, Satoru Gojo, and Choso.

Is Yuji and Choso’s strength greater than that of Yuta and Rika?

While Yuji and Choso may have greater endurance and physical strength than Rika and Yuta, the latter pair possesses more potential in terms of abilities. Yuta has the ability to use a Domain Expansion and can also mimic other individuals’ Cursed Techniques.

Despite Yuji and Choso being skilled in Blood Manipulation and hand-to-hand combat, Rika and Yuta have a significant advantage in terms of resources for battle.

Concluding Remarks

The unexpected passing of Choso in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 259 has left the fandom in shock and sparked numerous theories on how he may be revived. However, based on Akutami’s storytelling style, it is unlikely that fans will see Choso return to the action anytime soon.
