Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji’s Relentless Effort to Rescue Megumi

Jujutsu Kaisen: Yuji’s Relentless Effort to Rescue Megumi

Despite the recent chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen shifting away from Yuji and his struggle against Sukuna, chapter 263 redirected the spotlight to Todo and Yuji. Additionally, it reinforced speculations among fans that Yuta’s Hollow Purple ability would not be effective against Sukuna.

Chapter 263, which featured Yuta’s defeat, also unveiled that Yuji had made a binding vow with the sole purpose of defeating Sukuna. This has sparked speculation among fans about how far Yuji is willing to go in his quest to defeat Sukuna and save Megumi.

Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen series.

From the start of the story, Yuji has been portrayed as a “savior.”He was first introduced by dramatically breaking through his school windows to rescue a friend from a curse. Yuji’s desire to help others stems from his inherently innocent and straightforward personality, which was further reinforced by his grandfather’s final words. As his sole parental figure for the majority of his life, Yuji’s grandfather inspired him to always strive to save those in need.

Throughout the entire Sukuna fight, Yuji has constantly been testing his boundaries by utilizing the Reverse Cursed Technique in multiple instances of deadly hand-to-hand combat against Sukuna. His repeated mentions of wanting to rescue Megumi serve as a constant motivation throughout the battle.

Despite Yuji’s direct connection to Megumi’s soul, Megumi had already lost all hope for life after witnessing Sukuna’s brutal actions while possessing his body. However, upon discovering Megumi’s despair, Yuji continued to push forward in his battle against Sukuna.

Yuji made a binding vow to enhance his strikes, specifically targeting the barrier between Sukuna and Megumi’s soul. As a result, Sukuna was forced to completely evade his attacks. This binding vow system is comparable to the concept of equivalent exchange in Fullmetal Alchemist and nen in Hunter x Hunter.

There is a high likelihood that Yuji’s binding vow demanded a great sacrifice. As Yuji has continuously attempted to sacrifice himself in his quest to defeat Sukuna, it is entirely plausible that he would even offer up his own life as a condition for a new binding vow to retrieve Megumi from Sukuna’s grasp.

Despite some viewing his actions as driven by a “savior”complex, Yuji is merely carrying out his responsibilities as a sorcerer and a compassionate human being. This was evident in his past when he stood up to a group of bullies, showcasing his willingness to aid others. His innate tendency to guide and support others was also evident when he intervened in Higuruma’s misguided actions, ultimately helping him recognize and rectify his error.
