Jujutsu Kaisen’s Conclusion Elevates Sorcery Society Beyond the Heian Era

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, released on September 29, 2024, signifies the conclusion of the series after an impressive six years of serialization that began in March 2018. The narrative started with a relatively stable and tranquil Jujutsu society, largely due to Satoru Gojo’s extraordinary skill set as a sorcerer throughout the modern age. However, it culminated in the deaths of key figures including Kenjaku, Sukuna, and Gojo himself.

With the demise of these central characters, along with others like Yuki Tsukumo, many fans are worried that the Jujutsu society may now be facing its gravest challenges yet, characterized by rampant curse spirits, energy surges, and civil turmoil.

Despite the dire outlook, the fatalities of such influential characters could signal a significant advantage for the remaining sorcerers against existing threats. This unexpected turn of events might just catalyze the emergence of a golden age for the world of jujutsu.

The Heian Era marked the genesis of numerous sorcerers who would be regarded as special grade by today’s standards. This period not only boasted formidable sorcerers but also witnessed the evolution of innovative techniques, such as Yorozu’s construction, which overcame limitations through the study of insects and their biological functions.

While often dubbed the “Golden Age of Jujutsu,”the true golden age revolved around the enhancement of techniques and individual strength. Gojo’s exceptional abilities from birth disrupted the balance within the jujutsu realm, necessitating the emergence of more powerful cursed spirits.

The Heian Era was indeed a time of great strife, with the jujutsu society experiencing some of its most chaotic periods, defined by numerous losses among sorcerers. Though the opening chapters of the current era depicted a weaker state, sorcerers like Gojo and Sukuna helped balance the scales between sorcerers and cursed spirits. Gojo’s arrival triggered the rise of formidable cursed spirits, with disaster-level curses such as Jogo, Hanami, and Mahito becoming particularly troublesome adversaries.

Throughout the series, many of these powerful cursed spirits were eventually vanquished. With the definitive deaths of Gojo and Sukuna, it is now almost certain that no cursed spirit with equal strength to Jogo or greater will emerge again. This shift, coupled with the elevated power levels of the sorcerers who battled Sukuna, suggests that both new and existing cursed spirits will find themselves overmatched.

The malignant upper management of the Jujutsu society has been dismantled by Gojo, the Zenin clan suffered devastating losses at the hands of Maki, and the covert New Shadow Style Grandmaster was eliminated by Mei Mei. Collectively, these occurrences, along with the neutralization of significant threats, indicate that the jujutsu society is poised to enter a period of unprecedented peace and tranquility, marking the genuine commencement of the Golden Age for jujutsu.

Final Thoughts

The manga concluded with chapter 271 and currently has no announcements regarding a Part 2. The anime continues to air, with Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 anticipated for release sometime in 2025. Season 3 is expected to primarily adapt the Culling Games arc and delve into the repercussions of the Shibuya Incident, which initiated the decline of the current Jujutsu era.
