Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending will depend on Megumi’s return, not Sukuna’s defeat

Despite the Jujutsu High sorcerers gaining the upper hand, Ryomen Sukuna continues to heat up the intense battle in Jujutsu Kaisen with his unexpected moves. The riveting action never ceases as the Demon King unveils another surprise in their ongoing fight.

Despite facing 8 Black Flashes from Yuji Itadori and having his healing interrupted, he was able to activate his Malevolent Shrine Domain. Although it only lasted 99 seconds and was not yet complete, it inflicted significant harm on his adversaries, even injuring Yuji’s left foot. The chapter concluded with him impressing viewers as he readied his Fuga, also known as the Fire Arrow.

Despite all of the recent developments, there remains a lingering concern that Megumi Fushiguro’s role in the story is not yet finished. Given the destruction caused by Yuji, it is highly possible that Megumi will eventually break free. This supports the theory that the fate of Jujutsu Kaisen will depend on Megumi’s comeback rather than Sukuna’s downfall.

Jujutsu Kaisen: The Fate of the Series Lies in Megumi’s Hands, Not Sukuna’s

It is true that Megumi’s character is experiencing significant growth despite being in a comatose state. In chapter 258, Atsuya Kusakabe mentions Yuji’s rapid development, attributing it to Sukuna’s presence and his use of Special Grade Jujutsu. This has left a lasting impression on Yuji’s body, allowing it to quickly develop and improve its usage.

Just like Yuji, Sukuna also resided within Megumi’s body, though not as extensively. However, as his target has always been Megumi, he wasted no time in utilizing a significant portion of his powers upon taking over. Additionally, he even came close to unleashing his full strength against Gojo Satoru.

Essentially, Megumi’s body will also be marked with incredibly advanced Jujutsu. Additionally, Megumi has always been recognized for his immense potential, but has been hindered by his mental limitations. As a result, he is receiving a similar enhancement to Yuji’s from Sukuna, but on a much larger scale.

Megumi’s current form, in which Sukuna has revealed his true nature, possesses a plethora of abilities including Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT), a barrierless Domain, mastery of Binding Vow, proficiency in Black Flash, the ability to tame Mahoraga, upgraded Ten Shadows, and much more.

How the Conclusion of the Series Ties into Megumi’s Decision

Based on the events of the story, there must be a valid explanation for Megumi’s sudden and immense powers. Knowing the author Gege Akutami, it is highly unlikely that the dark-haired boy has been granted access to the most powerful Jujutsu sorcery without reason.

There is a strong possibility that Megumi will eventually be liberated and the merger will occur, in accordance with Kenjaku’s plans. As stated by Kenjaku, this union will give rise to a force that surpasses Cursed Energy (CE). Following this event, the remaining sorcerers will unite to combat the beast.

Alternatively, once liberated, Megumi could potentially turn against his allies. It is evident that his actions are motivated by his deep desire to protect his sister, Tsumiki. This is further exemplified by his decision to become a sorcerer and join forces with Gojo in order to guarantee her safety, as they only have each other to count on.

In the midst of The Culling Games, it became evident that Megumi’s intense desire to protect his sister could lead him down a dangerous road, as he showed a willingness to eliminate anyone who stood in his way. This was further demonstrated when he disregarded Reggie Star’s warning about Kenjaku’s plan to “drop a bomb”on the world, which ultimately proved to be true.

Furthermore, there is a potential explanation for why Megumi may betray his team. It is worth mentioning that during the Reggie Star battle, the dark-haired boy emerged victorious but became “cursed”as a result. In his final moments, Reggie urged Megumi to allow destiny to play with him before meeting his foolish demise.

The events unfolded as expected. Sukuna seized control of his body and murdered Gojo and his sister, whom he held dear. He now finds himself engaged in a fierce fight against his former allies. The last sighting of him was when Megumi, shattered by Yuji’s devastating attacks, lost the will to fight and even live on.

Ultimately, fate has played a cruel game with him, taking away everything he held dear, crushing his spirit, and potentially forcing him to witness it all over again upon his return. He could channel his rage by embracing the merger and facing the consequences it may bring.

Concluding Remarks

Regardless, this remains mere speculation as no one can truly predict what author Gege Akutami has in store for us. However, there are certainly some things that can be stated with confidence.

If Megumi were to come back, his abilities would surpass those of any sorcerer thanks to Sukuna coexisting within his body. However, even if he were to initiate the merger, it would not result in significant success as both CE and Jujutsu sorcery could potentially be eliminated.

While this remains a theory, the outcome is dependent on the actual progression of the story. Gege Akutami has the freedom to take the ending in either direction – Megumi joining forces with his comrades to battle the merging beast, or breaking free and becoming the ultimate antagonist. However, it is highly probable that Megumi plays a crucial role in determining the future of the series.
