Jujutsu Kaisen’s Mahoraga was overhyped and the plot proves it

Jujutsu Kaisen incorporated the concept of summoning Shikigami through Megumi Fushiguro and other characters. These powerful beings bear a striking resemblance to Curse Spirits and are summoned to serve as allies for sorcerers. They can provide support in combat, serve as a means of escape, or even be used for reconnaissance purposes.

Shikigami, such as Max Elephant, Toad, Neu, Divine Dogs, and others, can be summoned through various means and must be tamed by the summoning sorcerer before they are able to be utilized in battle, as seen throughout the series.

Despite being the source of fear for summoners and never being tamed, there was one Shikigami that stood out – the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Mahoraga. However, given the current circumstances in the series, was Mahoraga truly as formidable as he was believed to be?

Jujutsu Kaisen: Mahoraga May Have Been Overhyped, Especially When Fighting Alone

Mahoraga was known as the most unruly shikigami in the entire history of the Ten Shadows Technique. Unlike other shikigami in the Zenin Clan, it had never been successfully tamed or commanded. Nevertheless, practitioners of the technique were able to summon Mahoraga through an exorcism ritual whenever they desired to try and exorcise it.

Megumi had thought about calling upon Mahoraga as a final option twice before finally doing so during the Shibuya Incident. When Haruta Shigemo had him cornered, he resorted to summoning Mahoraga. However, their lives were saved when Ryomen Sukuna appeared and disrupted the exorcism ritual.

As a result, a destructive battle erupted between the two, causing significant damage to Shibuya City. Eventually, Sukuna emerged victorious over the Shikigami and put an end to the ritual. It is at this point that the notion of Mahoraga being overhyped arises.

Sukuna primarily relied on his physical prowess and fundamental techniques to overcome his opponent. In the end, it was his Malevolent Shrine Domain Expansion that ultimately secured his victory, as he relentlessly slashed Mahoraga before incinerating it with a powerful Fire Arrow attack.

Mahoraga was in the process of regenerating, although it was uncertain if this was due to the use of Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT). However, as its technique implied, it was capable of adapting to any type of attack in order to stay alive. This served as both a defensive and offensive tactic, allowing Mahoraga to adjust its methods to counter enemy attacks and overcome their defenses.

Looking back, besides Sukuna, there are other sorcerers with enough power to defeat Mahoraga. For example, Yuta’s Domain could incorporate Jacob’s Ladder, rendering the Shikigami’s technique ineffective and allowing for a decisive attack. Additionally, Kenjaku’s intelligence and vast army of Cursed Spirits would give him the advantage in a battle against Mahoraga.

In Summary

It is an undeniable truth that sorcerers such as Yuta and Kenjaku rank among the top 1% of Jujutsu Society. These individuals possess incredibly powerful techniques and abilities that have the potential to overpower even the Divine General. In addition, very few have the ability to stand against this Shikigami.

Additionally, it is important to note that Mahoraga is intended to fight alongside a master rather than fighting alone. A prime example of this is when Sukuna battled Yorozu and only summoned the General’s wheel. This strategic decision allowed Sukuna to manage the adaptation process, ultimately leading to Mahoraga’s emergence and ensuring victory.

In summary, it could be argued that Divine General Mahoraga may have been excessively praised when fighting alone. This is because it is a Shikigami that must be tamed and mastered before being used in battle. Nevertheless, as demonstrated by Sukuna, once tamed, Mahoraga possesses significant power.
