Jujutsu Kaisen: The narrative faces critical shortcomings beyond the rushed finale

The plot of Jujutsu Kaisen revolves around Gojo’s mission to discover and cultivate new Jujutsu talent, aiming to uplift the next generation and shield them from the deeply ingrained corruption of the Jujutsu world.

The conflict arising from the prior generation’s choices and the corruption embedded in Jujutsu society plays a pivotal role in the evolution of numerous characters, notably Yuji, Maki, and Hakari. Yuji faced persecution from the Jujutsu society, being condemned to death for being Sukuna’s host.

Maki endured rejection from the Zenin family, who questioned her capabilities and obstructed her growth, stemming from their antiquated and hostile beliefs. In a similar vein, Hakari found himself marginalized by the Jujutsu elite due to conflicting ideologies.

Most of these storylines found resolution as the narrative progressed; Maki avenged her sister’s death by decimating the Zenin clan, Yuji eventually purged Sukuna and liberated Megumi from his possession, and Hakari’s dilemmas were partially resolved following Gojo’s removal of the Jujutsu leadership prior to his confrontation with Sukuna.

Even villains like Kenjaku, who had meticulously plotted over centuries, met a lackluster end, with his schemes crumbling alongside Sukuna. Despite the anticipation built around Kenjaku as one of the series’ intellects, his defeat lacked the expected impact.

Final reflections

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga wrapped up without any announcements for a second part or a spin-off, yet the anime continues, with Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 set to premiere in 2025. There’s a chance that a manga spin-off has already been decided and could be unveiled in conjunction with season 3’s debut, which will portray the Culling Games arc.

Moreover, the conclusion did hint at potential developments for a second part, especially with foreign government involvement and the weakening of Tengen’s barrier, suggesting that future storytelling is plausible.
