The 113th issue of DC Comics’ current NIGHTWING comic series, released on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, featured a character resembling protagonist Yuji Itadori, as shared by X user @Go_Jover (Myamura), a well-known leaker of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. According to Myamura, this was an interesting detail from the recent release by DC Comics.
Despite not having any dialogue and being seen only in the background of a crowded panel, it is still thrilling to see the reference to the main character of Jujutsu Kaisen. The background character’s appearance, particularly their clothing and hair color/design, strongly hints at them being Yuji.
Despite claims from individuals like Myamura that Yuji is now considered “canon”in the DC Universe (DCU) due to this recent appearance, it is more probable that it is simply a subtle reference rather than an actual introduction of a “Yuji”character.
Despite this, followers of Jujutsu Kaisen remain extremely enthusiastic about the series as it continues to gain widespread popularity through the success of its second season and captivating developments in the manga.
Yuji Itadori’s cameo in DC Comics’ latest NIGHTWING issue sparks fan theories about a potential collaboration with Jujutsu Kaisen.
As previously stated, the inclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen’s Yuji Itadori in the most recent issue of DC Comics’ NIGHTWING series has sparked discussions among fans about a potential collaboration between the two franchises. While this nod could potentially lead to an official collaboration, it is not a definitive confirmation and the project may not materialize based solely on this single occurrence.
One instance of this is when Deadpool (2024) referenced Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga in its debut issue. This is similar to other references found in comics and other manga series, but none of them have resulted in any major collaborations or projects.
Kohei Horikoshi, the mangaka of My Hero Academia, is another example of a creator within the manga industry who references other series. In his own work, he includes a nod to Chainsaw Man by featuring its titular character in the background. While these references are always exciting and appreciated, they do not necessarily indicate a future collaboration between the two series.
The NIGHTWING series, which appears to feature Yuji Itadori, has been ongoing since September 2016. It was originally released as part of the DC Rebirth relaunch initiative.
Gege Akutami, the author and illustrator, created the manga series Jujutsu Kaisen which first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in March 2018. The series is currently ongoing and continues to be published in Weekly Shonen Jump, with the final arc reportedly currently in progress.
The series has also been turned into a TV anime by MAPPA Studios, with Sunghoo Park directing the initial season and Shota Goshozono directing the second season. While the third season was confirmed shortly after the conclusion of the second season, no further information has been announced at the time of writing this article.
