Despite featuring well-known actors such as Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Moo-yeol, Jung Yu-mi, Lee Soo-hyuk, and Ji Chang-wook, “Queen Woo” sparked controversy immediately after its premiere due to its graphic nudity and sexual content.

Despite its R rating, the drama has faced criticism for its excessive and explicit depictions of nudity and sexual content, causing some viewers to feel disconnected from the story.

Specifically, the performance of actress Jung Yu-mi has caught the interest of viewers for her confident portrayal in episode 4, which featured scenes of partial nudity and sexual activity. One scene depicted Ji Chang-wook’s character engaging in sexual acts with maids for a duration of 203 seconds, and another showed Jung Yu-mi’s character engaging in a sexual encounter with another woman for 114 seconds. The drama also included numerous bed scenes throughout episodes 1 to 4, solidifying its reputation as one of the most sexually explicit historical dramas.

At the drama’s press conference, Jung Yu-mi discussed the provocative scenes and acknowledged feeling burdened by the nudity. However, she recognized the importance of these scenes in maintaining the tension of the story and dedicated herself to shooting them with determination.

The nude scenes of Jung Yu-mi in “Queen Woo”sparked discussion and raised questions about the use of a body double. Online communities were abuzz when the ending credits revealed the name of the body double for Woo Soon, the character portrayed by Jung Yu-mi.

Some users on the internet reacted with a combination of opinions, stating, “In my opinion, the scenes were filmed with a stand-in; there’s no necessity to expose oneself completely,”and “At least she’s being truthful. Many performers try to be evasive about whether they utilized a substitute or not.”
