‘JYP Protect Your Artists’: Fans Demand Label’s Action Against TWICE, ITZY, NMIXX’s Deepfake Videos

As the “new nth room”and other deepfake crimes continue to emerge in South Korea, fans of TWICE, ITZY, and NMIXX are urging JYP to take action after it was revealed that their artists were among the victims.

On August 30th, the fandoms of JYP artists, including ONCEs (TWICE), MIDZYs (ITZY), and NSWERs (NMIXX), united to bring attention to JYP Entertainment. This came after the girl groups were discovered on various deepfake porn websites.

The photos of the members were modified using digital technology to create n*des, and their faces were also incorporated into preexisting adult content.

Despite tens of thousands of deepfakes being exposed online, it was discovered that many of them had been in operation for years. As a result, some individuals fell victim to this crime while they were still minors.

In order to demand prompt legal action, supporters of JYP used specific hashtags and organized a mass email event on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), incorporating the following keywords:

Please ensure that JYP protects their artists.

The hashtag #JYP_PROTECT_TWICE is meant to protect Twice.

#ITZY_SHIELD_BY_JYP

We must protect #JYP_PROTECT_NMIXX.

A list began circulating on SNS on Thursday, naming more than 200 female idols who had been targeted by creators of deepfake videos and were subsequently shared in R-19 channels.

Recently, the notorious “New Nth Room”came to light, in which the messaging platform Telegram was utilized to distribute illicit deepfake videos of multiple women.

This situation involves two distinct layers: the first involves adult men using deepfake content to humiliate women and family members, while the second layer involves male students sharing R-19 deepfake videos of their classmates. The majority of the victims in this case fall within the age range of 13 to 19.

This is a distinct instance from the 2020 “Nth Room”case, in which numerous Korean men were involved in several chat rooms where they blackmailed and exploited multiple women and children as s*x slaves.

Both individuals utilized Telegram to distribute these videos and to extort victims into performing heinous acts in exchange.

As news of this scandal resurfaced, certain netizens drew connections between Taeil’s sexual offense case and the infamous “nth room,”suggesting that the celebrity, along with over 200 other male idols, may have been implicated.

One rumor suggests that Taeil’s alleged victim was a minor who he supposedly blackmailed and molested for a span of six years.

Despite the police handling his case denying his involvement in the nth room, they did acknowledge that a case was filed against him in June by an “adult woman.”

Moreover, in light of the fact that K-pop idols are susceptible to becoming targets of this type of content, it is not only JYP fans but the entire K-pop community that is joining forces to raise awareness and urge major labels to address this significant issue.
