JYP Star: Foreign Idol Who Initially Spoke No Korean

Nichkhun, a prominent member of the K-pop sensation 2PM, made his debut in 2008. Possessing dual citizenship from Thailand and the United States, he uniquely held the title of the sole foreign member of the group. Reflecting on this experience, Nichkhun quipped, “I didn’t know a word of Korean and didn’t think I’d make it because I had no talent. I think I was chosen as the foreign-language member.” His humility and perspective on success are commendable.

If he had not become an idol, Nichkhun imagines he might have pursued photography or honed his piano skills. “If I could turn back time, I wouldn’t change anything. My missteps shaped my journey. I’m very lucky,” he stated, highlighting his contentment with life as it has unfolded.

Moreover, he expressed, “I had no dream of becoming a singer and couldn’t even speak Korean; yet here I am, succeeding as a foreign Korean idol. Along the way, I’ve met wonderful people like my 2PM members and J.Y. Park, which I wouldn’t trade for anything.”

J.Y. Park, known for his sternness during evaluation sessions, exhibited a surprisingly gentle approach towards Nichkhun. With a touch of humor, Nichkhun recounted, “During evaluations where he scored each of us, I pretended I couldn’t understand Korean. He would just say, ‘Let’s practice more,’ and move on,” eliciting laughter from fans.

Exploring New Horizons: Acting

Branching into acting, Nichkhun made his Hollywood debut in the R-rated film “The Modelizer.” The film sparked conversations due to its daring scenes, prompting Nichkhun to humorously advise, “My mom shouldn’t watch this.”

He later commented, “Unlike live singing, acting offers the chance to prepare, providing a different charm. I look forward to exploring various avenues in the future.”
