Concerns Arise Over Allegations of Abuse and Dietary Restrictions at JYP Entertainment
In a recent development, former VCHA member KG initiated legal proceedings to dissolve her contract with JYP Entertainment, alleging severe mistreatment of artists. One shocking claim indicated that the pressure led a fellow member to attempt suicide, highlighting a troubling aspect of the idol culture.
KG’s accusations extend to stringent dietary controls imposed on the company’s artists. She described a regime so severe that members were mandated to maintain an alarmingly low weight, receiving mere portions of salad as meals and even being told outright not to eat. JYP allegedly monitored their culinary activities closely, which has raised significant red flags regarding the treatment of the idols.
This revelation has prompted fans of JYP artists to engage in heated discussions about the agency’s reportedly toxic eating practices. Many are expressing their concerns regarding the eating disorders that may plague those within the JYP talent roster.
We need to talk about how bad the ED culture is at JYP. I’m seriously concerned for all their idols. https://t.co/B10dYHwrN3 pic.twitter.com/wbsbThzQG5

Notable incidents have emerged, such as the pressure placed on TWICE’s Momo, who was reportedly told she needed to lose 7 kg (approximately 15 pounds) to participate in a showcase, resulting in her resorting to a diet of ice for an entire week. Furthermore, Stray Kids’ Felix recounted that he felt compelled to diet excessively, joking that he needed to slim down to the point of seeing his bones—although he later clarified his remark was exaggerated, it underscores the uncomfortable reality that idols face.
Additionally, concerns have been raised regarding ITZY members, with Chaeyeon expressing a desire for a pill that would satiate her hunger, and Yuna admitting to battling symptoms of an eating disorder linked to her intense focus on dieting. These revelations have deeply resonated with fans, who are increasingly alarmed by the potential toxicity of the dieting culture within JYP Entertainment.
While KG’s lawsuit provides significant evidence for these claims, it is essential to recognize that this issue transcends JYP, shedding light on broader systemic problems within the K-pop industry.
In response to these claims, JYP Entertainment has contested KG’s allegations, asserting that they are “false and exaggerated.” However, KG has countered by stating she is prepared to substantiate her claims with compelling evidence, including photographs and physical proof.
