K-netizens React To BTS Fans Leaving The Fandom Following Suga’s Drunk Driving Issue

A netizen on Nate Pann recently uploaded a screenshot of a post from an ARMY (fan of BTS) on X (previously known as Twitter). The post displayed images of Suga’s posters and merchandise being ripped and discarded. The fan also used the hashtag #Suga_out_challenge in an attempt to rally other ARMYs to participate.

As a reply to this, internet users left their comments:

When a scandal arises, fans may be reluctant to invest their money in the idol group, especially when the issue involves drunk driving. Even loyal fans who used to purchase 10 albums may now feel that it is not worth their money and only buy one. Such controversies can also hinder potential new fans from becoming familiar with the group.

Why are individuals who advocate for a member to leave being unfairly categorized as anti-fans, haters, or akgaes of other members? I myself took part in the challenge and have noticed more people joining in. We all have confirmed memberships in the official fancafe. It is evident that those who oppose the challenge and call for a member’s withdrawal mostly share images sourced from the Internet or own only a few albums, indicating that they are merely voicing their opinions without any real commitment.

Despite the enthusiastic discussions on platforms like Pann, theqoo, and Instiz about Suga’s withdrawal and leaving the fandom, it’s important to remember that these online spaces do not represent the views of everyone in real life. While there may be some individuals who are considering leaving the ARMY fandom, the majority of people still find it difficult to completely disassociate themselves from it. It’s crucial to keep in mind that the online world is not a reflection of the entire world.

I support the decision to leave the fandom because it has been several weeks since the incident occurred, and it is evident that the individual in question has been evading responsibility and attempting to sway public opinion. The JTBC correction report has confirmed that the incident involved an electric scooter on the sidewalk, not on the road, yet the individual is still trying to portray the incident as a false report. It is disheartening to see them prioritize manipulating public opinion over taking accountability for their actions.

“Do not let a few individuals like you discourage us from continuing the challenge. Many of us in the fandom will not be leaving because of people like you.”
