K-pop Fans React to Alleged Involvement of 200 Male Idols in ‘New Nth Room’ Scandal

Despite the lack of confirmation, rumors were circulating on the internet that approximately 200 K-pop male idols were linked to the “New Nth Room.”This caused a divide among fans as they shared their own opinions on the matter.

On August 28, SM Entertainment issued an official statement stating that Taeil would be departing from NCT following allegations of sexual misconduct. This sparked widespread outrage from fans, leading to a flood of online posts, threads, and reactions.

In the midst of the disorder, netizens were flooded with a combination of information and emotions. Certain netizens argued that Taeil was merely one of the 200 accused male idols linked to the “New Nth Room,”causing turmoil among supporters.

However, the sentiments led to certain facts becoming intertwined, as the claims were being conflated with the recent deepfake sex crime in South Korea.

The “New Nth Room”is made up of several Telegram chat rooms where Korean males and students exchange degrading and exploitative videos of women, family members, and female students.

Despite mistakenly connecting Taeil to the ongoing “New Nth Room,”it was later discovered that he had no involvement with the original “Nth Room”case in 2020.

The “Nth Room”case shocked the public as it revealed the involvement of Korean men, including professors, athletes, and public figures, in the exploitation of underage girls and women through group chats. Netizens took to social media to express their reactions to this disturbing situation.
