Before IVE, NewJeans had already caught the public’s eye for its impressive earnings. As reported in the audit report by Auditors and submitted to the Financial Supervisory Service’s Electronic Disclosure System, NewJeans’s sales in the previous year (2022) totaled 110.3 billion won, which was more than five times higher than the 19 billion won in sales from the year before.
The operating profit saw a significant increase, reaching 33.5 billion won compared to a loss of 4 billion won in the previous year. The timeline for receiving salaries for idol activities varies significantly. While there may be exceptions, such as NewJeans receiving payment after only 2 months, there are also cases where it takes several years for idols to receive their salaries.
The variation in timing is attributed to the initial investment costs, which include training expenses during the trainee period. Salaries can only be received once all album investment funds and activity-related costs are fully paid off. As not all debuts result in success, both the timing and profits may differ.
Cho Sung-ho, who had been a member of the group HALO, disclosed that he received a total of 580,000 won as his first salary for 5 years of being active before enlisting in the military.
Singer Kang Hye-yeon disclosed that during her time as a member of groups BESTie and EXID, she earned a salary of over 100 million won. Similarly, MONSTA X, GFRIEND, AOA, and other groups also shared that they received payment after 2 to 3 years of being active.
