Kai Cenat & IShowSpeed Fans React to Streamer of the Year Results

Samantha ‘Rivers’ Rivera Trevino was named Streamer of the Year at the Esports Awards on August 24, receiving the top honor during the ceremony.

Rivers_gg, a popular Mexican content creator on Twitch, has amassed a following of 6.3 million on the platform. Her streams primarily feature gaming and IRL content.

Fans of Kai Cenat and IShowSpeed, who were both nominated for the award, have expressed surprise and confusion at the result as neither of them received the award. The complete list of nominees is as follows:

  • Nicholas ‘Jynxzi’ Stewart
  • Kai Cenat
  • River ‘River’ Llanos
  • Cody ‘Clix’ Conrod
  • Darren Watkins Jr., also known as IShowSpeed, is an avid gamer.
  • Case ‘Caseoh’ Baker
  • Félix ‘xQc’ is Polish
  • Marc ‘Caedrel’ Lamont
  • Victor ‘Joker’ Augusto
  • Alexander ‘Gaules’ Chiqueta
  • Samantha ‘Rivers’ Rivera Trevino

In response to the Esports Awards’ social media post on X/Twitter congratulating Rivers on her victory, a user immediately accused the organizers of showing disrespect towards IShowSpeed, despite the fact that the community was solely responsible for voting on the award.

They exclaimed, “The lack of respect shown towards Speed is completely unacceptable. He definitely earned the win… Those responsible for this decision fail to comprehend the desires of the audience. We hope you are satisfied with your decision, but we certainly are not.”

“Did they simply overlook the fact that Speed had his most successful year yet, and that Kai had the top non-event stream and marathons of the year?”This was stated by Fortnite content creator HYPEX in a tweet.

Some responses in the same post varied from describing the result as a “joke,”to flat out denying that the award was determined by fan votes, arguing that “Rivers is not well-known.”

In August, Kai and Speed joined forces to embark on a challenging Minecraft journey that lasted over 100 hours. After a grueling marathon, the duo emerged victorious by defeating the Ender Dragon on August 22.

In 2024, both Speed and Kai have achieved great accomplishments in their respective careers. Speed’s European tour garnered 2.5 billion views, while Kai’s 166-hour Elden Ring playthrough in May was met with immense viewership.
