Kai Cenat denied attending a Nike basketball event, citing the New York Police Department’s statement that they would not provide surveillance if he did.
In February, the Twitch streamer announced that he had joined forces with Nike, although Kai disclosed that there have been some challenges since finalizing the partnership.
During a broadcast on August 13, Kai shared with both his friends and viewers that he claims to have missed an opportunity to host a basketball tournament due to the intervention of the NYPD.
Kai stated that the New York City Police Department had informed Nike that they would not be providing any monitoring or protection in the event that the popular internet personality made an appearance.

Kai referred to the situation as “insane”and stated that he was originally supposed to introduce the teams participating in the event, but ultimately missed the chance to do so.
The reason for this was reportedly due to the NYPD informing Nike that if Kai attended the event, their services would not be provided.
“Kai recalled that he and his team were not provided protection for the event, leaving them to fend for themselves. He expressed his frustration, unable to attend the event and placing blame on the NYPD for neglecting their duty.”
He then made a lighthearted remark about hosting another giveaway, recalling the previous incident in which the Twitch star was charged with inciting a riot in August 2023 and ended up paying a significant fine.
The video was posted on X, sparking speculation among viewers that Kai’s involvement in the riot was the reason for the NYPD’s threatening actions.
Despite criticism directed towards the police department for excluding Kai, there were also those who voiced their support. One individual commented, “This statement makes sense. The sheer number of fans that would show up to see Kai would require a significant amount of manpower to control.”
“One individual expressed concerns about the potential destruction that could be caused by Kai and his fans, while another stated that, if they were part of the NYPD, they would not protect the area due to previous incidents where Kai caused a riot.”
