Kaiju No 8 is heading to theaters, but we have some bad news

Kaiju No 8 will be returning for Season 2 in 2025, along with a special release in theaters that is not a movie.

In June 2024, the second season of Kaiju No 8 was announced, solidifying the anime as a surprise hit. Despite being up against popular shows like Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia, the monster-filled series still managed to gain a loyal following, ensuring its renewal.

The next stage of Naoya Matsumoto’s universe will see Production IG taking on a larger scale. Despite this, Kafka Hibino’s journey to the silver screen will not involve a new film or his most recent episodes.

A Japan-only release of a special episode titled ‘Hoshina’s Day-Off’ is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2025. At the moment, only the title and release plans have been revealed.

There are many unknowns regarding this matter. Is it a piece that was removed from the initial season? Perhaps it is a completely new spinoff? At this point, the answers elude us.

Similarly, what will be the duration of this? Anime episodes typically range from 20 minutes to full-length films, therefore, it is expected that ‘Hoshina’s Day-Off’ will have a sufficient length to be considered a standalone episode. It is anticipated that it will eventually be included in a compilation of the first season.

In recent times, some have gained widespread attention, particularly due to the success of Demon Slayer, Bocchi the Rock, and others. The last mentioned even broke box office records by releasing two films that consisted solely of re-edited footage from previous seasons.

The addition of this inclusion in Kaiju No 8 brings it closer to the style of Tanjiro and the Demon Slayer Corps, hinting at what is to come rather than relying solely on recap episodes. While it may not gain as much attention as those two, the fact that it is being shown in cinemas is a clear indication of its popularity.

We will continue to provide updates. In the meantime, be sure to check out our list of top anime similar to Kaiju No 8, and stay tuned for more great recommendations on our upcoming anime list.
