Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Rumored to Be Already in Development

On Saturday, June 15, 2024, @SugoiLITE (formerly known as Sugoi), a reputable source for general anime news, announced that Kaiju No. 8 season 2 is currently in the works. This news came shortly after the release of the 10th episode of the anime, and only a few minutes after the franchise revealed a new mobile and PC game.

Despite not providing a specific source for this information about season 2 of Kaiju No. 8, Sugoi is not the only source that supports this claim. Other, less reliable X accounts within the anime community have also reported on this news, further adding credibility to Sugoi’s initial post. Although these accounts may not be as trustworthy as Sugoi, the fact that they are reporting on the same information at the same time only strengthens the validity of this rumor.

Rumored Production of Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 Before First Season Finishes

Despite being only a rumor, the potential for a second season of Kaiju No. 8 is a positive sign of the series’ success. This can be attributed to the strong marketing efforts of both Crunchyroll and Shueisha, who have worked diligently to ensure the show’s success. It is clear that their efforts have already paid off, even before the conclusion of the first season. Fans can look forward to the final episode of season 1 in the upcoming weeks.

At the time of writing this article, there is no additional information available about the rumored second season. However, based on the current information, fans can anticipate a few things from the upcoming season. Firstly, it is likely that season 1 will conclude with the completion of the Kaiju No. 8 Captured arc, which covers up to chapter 39 in the manga. Currently, the manga is in the midst of the Second Wave arc and the 108th chapter has just been released.

Based on the current progress of the manga and the expected production time for season 2, it is highly likely that the upcoming season will cover the entirety of the Second Wave arc. This may require a two-cour second season, but it is feasible for Production I.G to choose this approach.

Fans can anticipate even higher production value and budget for season 2 of Kaiju No. 8, provided that the rumors of its early development are indeed true. Although Production I.G put effort into the first season’s production, they are likely to be more extravagant in their approach for the second season.

Naoya Matsumoto, the author and illustrator of the original manga series, first published it in July 2020 on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital platform. The series is still ongoing and is regularly serialized on the platform. As of now, there are 108 chapters available, out of which 97 have been compiled into 12 volumes, with the 13th volume set to release in July. Out of the 12 released volumes, 10 have already been translated into English.
