On March 24, Kang Byung Gyu shared a candid video on the YouTube channel “Channel Gofixhae, ” reflecting on a challenging chapter from his past. This video revisits the controversy surrounding his trial for alleged violent behavior during the production of the hit series “Iris.”

Confrontation and Courtroom Dynamics

During a discussion with the production team, Kang revealed that he never had a direct confrontation with his accuser. He explained, “People who are powerful and influential never have to do a face-to-face confrontation. The police don’t even call them. They summon a lawyer quietly and conduct a light investigation.” Kang expressed his frustrations about the judicial process, noting, “I kept requesting a confrontation. I said, ‘Why is this person suing me? He’s never even seen me.’” To his surprise, when the accuser appeared in court, the judge acknowledged them in a manner Kang interpreted as biased.

A Frustrating Experience

Kang continued to describe his experience in the courtroom, saying, “When he took the witness oath, he didn’t even look me in the eye once. The courtroom wasn’t some grand space like in dramas or movies.” His desire for understanding was palpable; he wished to confront the accuser to comprehend the motive behind the allegations.“People think I assaulted Lee Byung Hun, but for me to do that, I would have had to meet him first. We never even crossed paths, ” he emphasized.

The Origins of the Dispute

Kang Byung Gyu elaborated on the circumstances leading to the incident, explaining that tensions escalated when producer “J, ” affiliated with Lee Byung Hun, disparaged him to the media. Although fellow cast member “K” attempted to mediate, Kang presented a different narrative: when he arrived at the filming location seeking resolution, he alleged he was assaulted by J’s relatives. Adding to the complexity, he claimed their call for police assistance was thwarted, resulting in the incident being framed as a mutual altercation.

Desire for Reconciliation

Reflecting on his motivations, Kang stated, “I wanted (J) to apologize, clear up misunderstandings, and build a better relationship. That’s why I went there to receive an apology.” His disappointment in the lack of support from his peers added to the gravity of his experience, stating, “I explained this to a few people, but no one cared.”
