KATSEYE Accidentally Retweets One Of RIIZE’s Tweets
On May 2, 2024, a popular post titled “HYBE’s girl group account making a mistake”was shared on the well-known South Korean online community forum TheQoo.
The OP shared a screenshot of KATSEYE’s activity on X, which was previously known as Twitter. While managing the account, someone accidentally retweeted a post from RIIZE, a male group signed under SM Entertainment. The retweet in question was RIIZE’s official announcement of their fan light.
The poster noted in the caption that HYBE’s American girl group had shared the tweet, but later removed it.
It is quite a remarkable coincidence that SM Entertainment and HYBE Corporation have a strong connection. In March 2024, it was revealed that HYBE had acquired 104.3 billion KRW worth of shares in SM Entertainment, following the decision of the company’s founder, Lee Soo Man, to sell his shares.
As of now, HYBE holds 12.6% of SM Entertainment’s shares, making it the second-largest shareholder of the company. The largest stakes are held by Kakao Corp and Kakao Entertainment, with 20.8% and 19.1% ownership, respectively.
Korean Netizens React to KATSEYE Accidentally Retweeting RIIZE’s Tweet
It was impossible for Korean netizens to remain silent. The one factor that captured their interest was the interaction between KATSEYE, a girl group under HYBE, and a boy group from SM Entertainment. This interaction gave the impression that HYBE is heavily reliant on SM Entertainment.
RIIZE Fans Divided Once Again Over Revised Official Lightstick Unveiling, But BRIIZEs Can’t Miss It
It was said in jest that HYBE had an immense fondness for SM Entertainment, earning the term “one-sided love.”
This is most likely attributed to the fact that in March 2023, HYBE made an effort to increase its ownership in SM Entertainment. However, Kakao’s successful tender offer resulted in their stake being raised to 35%, leaving HYBE with no option but to sell 44% of its shares in the company to Kakao.
Min Hee Jin has denied the rumors claiming that she accused RIIZE, TWS, and other brands of copying NewJeans.
Several comments were read,
- “What would HYBE do without SM? They love SM so much.”
- “Damn, it is SM again.”
- “Can’t they just leave SM alone?”
- “HYBE’s one-sided love… It’s sad to see.”
- “Of course, it’s HYBE of all companies.”
- “HYBE has to bring up SM and their idols in everything they do. It’s getting annoying.”
- “It’s SM of all companies.”
- “HYBE’s eternal one-sided love for SM.”
- “Are they SM fans?”
