After the release of a documentary, the tension between KATSEYE, a girl group under HYBE, and their member Manon is receiving a variety of responses from their fanbase EYEKONS.
On August 21st, HYBE x Netflix premiered “Popstar Academy,”a docuseries showcasing the journey of KATSEYE, a K-pop-trained global girl group.
The group consists of six final members who made their debut in June with the track, “DEBUT.”On August 5, they quickly returned with the single, “Touch,”which has become a popular sound on TikTok.
As the group’s popularity continues to rise, HYBE made a surprising announcement for the team to release a documentary. This is an uncommon move for a rookie group that debuted just two months ago.
Despite facing some criticism, the documentary was eventually released, showcasing the pre-debut journey of the original 10 members and giving insight into their training and challenges.
Despite being released to a large audience, the docuseries gained significant views for a different, unfortunate reason.
The show’s snippets were widely shared among EYEKONs (fandom) on TikTok and X, but only one scene gained true viral status. This was the part where KATSEYE was “beefing”with Manon.

Despite joining the pre-debut team later than the other members, Manon’s lack of skills was frequently mentioned in the early episodes.
Furthermore, she has also faced criticism for her tardiness during practices and breaking curfews, resulting in her having to reside with her aunt instead of in the dormitory.
The program manager’s initial decision was to not include Manon in the group. However, after the airing of “Dream Academy,”the audition program, Manon’s performance won over the hearts of many fans and caused a significant “plot twist.”As a result, the manager ultimately decided to include Manon in the group.
As the series neared its end, the girls finally confronted Manon and expressed their concerns to her. Despite Manon’s attempt to defend herself by mentioning her illness, the other members insisted on being heard first and made it clear that they wanted to be with her.
The problems were resolved after Manon apologized and recommended that the members communicate with her directly if they had any issues.
As the series progressed, disagreements arose within the KATSEYE fandom. Supporters of Manon defended her, alleging mistreatment by the other members and staff, even though she was unwell.
What a lot of people don’t realize is the cultural difference here. Manon was raised in Switzerland. They prioritize Physical and Mental health in schools above everything so from her perspective she thought it was ok to take a day off. https://t.co/D2nmMCntRo

why does everyone conveniently always miss the part where she says she wouldnt show up to practice because she was sore or because she viewed this as “school”and saw taking a day off as no problem. thats what ezrela was talking about and everyone perceives it as shade. https://t.co/DoYWB0daJp

This whole situation is so funny to me because it’s just widespread cope. If Manon is able to miss lessons and still be better than 80% of you then maybe your dream isn’t yours to live. https://t.co/xfyANvFXHY

Conversely, some EYEKONs acknowledged the concerns of their fellow members and criticized Manon supporters for portraying her as the victim and labeling the rest of KATSEYE as “jealous”members.
This clip puts everything in the right context regarding the issues about: 1) skipping practices; 2) breaking rules and curfews; 3) needing special housing arrangements; 4) being unresponsive to calls/texts. Just overall lack of professionalism affecting her team’s performances. https://t.co/KKhxf3jOSW pic.twitter.com/hkpNYsBj7R

The way people are using the “she was sick” as an excuse to hate on other girls when there is literally a scene where a perfectly NOT SICK Manon says she gonna “skip” rehearsal. It’s good that she did better in the end, but the girls’ frustration is valid https://t.co/dMCb5585bi
