Ever since the beginning of the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga, it has been clear that main character Boruto has significantly surpassed deuteragonist Kawaki in strength. However, this gap in power is not solely due to Boruto’s intense training during the time skip, but rather a more significant factor.
Ever since his debut in the first manga, Kawaki has been portrayed as significantly stronger than his adoptive brother due to his karma. However, as time passes, the protagonist becomes more proficient in utilizing karma and becomes a formidable rival to Isshiki’s vessel in terms of strength.
Despite initially being stronger than his adoptive brother, Kawaki is now unable to match his abilities and has been surpassed by Boruto. This has sparked discussions among fans online, as they try to understand the reason behind this shift in power.

The Consequences of Kawaki’s New Karma in His Battle Against Boruto
From the events depicted in the new manga series, it is evident that Boruto possesses significantly greater strength than Kawaki. Although one may assume this is due to the protagonist’s rigorous training during the time skip, there appears to be a more significant underlying factor at play.
In the past, he possessed abilities and strength that surpassed that of an Otsutsuki. However, that is no longer the case. Currently, Kawaki’s abilities and strength are on par with Borushiki’s. This level of strength should not exceed that of Isshiki or Jigen. So, what caused this change in Kawaki?
Even when ignoring the power difference between them in TBV Kawaki have another big disadvantage byu/Lukas-Reggi inBoruto
A theory proposed by Reddit user u/Lukas-Reggi suggests that the discrepancy in Kawaki’s strength can be attributed to the alteration in his karma. Initially, Kawaki’s karma was bestowed upon him by Jigen, specifically from Isshiki Otsutsuki. This enabled Kawaki to proficiently utilize the powers and strength bestowed upon him by the Otsutsuki.
Despite this, his karma was eventually lost when Isshiki Otsutsuki unintentionally utilized a shadow-clone of Kawaki to bring himself back to life.
Afterwards, Amado bestowed Kawaki with new karma. Despite Kawaki’s desire to rid himself of karma, Amado saw potential in his compatibility with it and aimed to use this to bring back his daughter Akebi Sanzu. As a result, Amado implanted Kawaki with new karma during one of their examinations.
Despite receiving his new karma, Kawaki has been rather underwhelming when utilizing it. This plot development indicates that the root cause of his lackluster performance in battle with the karma is due to it not being his original one.
Amado’s new synthetic karma appears to bestow the same abilities as the original karma. However, it appears that Kawaki’s new karma does not give him the same level of strength as the original.
Despite the manga not confirming it, there is still a possibility that the physical strength gained from karma is dependent on the individual who uses it. This could potentially explain why Jigen and Isshiki’s karma resulted in significant physical strength, while Amado’s yielded a weaker outcome.
However, it must be noted that this is purely conjecture and the validity of the theory has not been validated by the manga series.
