The journalist who initially broke the news about Jung Joon-young’s illegal filming allegation in September 2016 was featured in a BBC News documentary on May 19th. In the documentary, the journalist stated, “When Jung Joon-young’s former partner, A, received a call from KBS’s lawyer, she was warned that she could be severely punished for making false accusations if she did not have enough evidence.”
Upon hearing this, the victim was filled with fear and ultimately decided to withdraw the complaint against Jung Joon-young.
In February 2016, A filed a lawsuit against Jung Joon-young after finding out that he had secretly filmed videos of her body parts with his phone. Jung Joon-young later confessed to filming the videos, but stated that he believed he had A’s consent. He did not hand over his phone to the police, instead opting to have a private forensic company examine it.
In September 2016, the media uncovered the truth that A had withdrawn her complaint against Jung Joon-young, but had later submitted a petition advocating for leniency towards him. The reporter who covered the case revealed that A had only submitted the petition after being contacted by KBS’s lawyer.
In September 2016, Jung Joon-young held a press conference where he adamantly denied any wrongdoing. Following the press conference, public opinion shifted and the victim faced severe backlash.
After being exposed as one of the orchestrators of the Burning Sun Scandal, Jung Joon-young was arrested and charged in March 2019. He was convicted of multiple sex crimes and sentenced to five years in prison. On March 19th of this year, Jung Joon-young was released from prison.
