KBS Issues Ban on BLACKPINK’s Jennie Over Controversial Lyrics in “Mantra”

On October 23rd, KBS music review outcomes indicated that the track “Mantra” breached Article 46 of the Broadcasting Review Regulations due to its mention of a particular brand within the lyrics, resulting in a ban on its broadcast.

Alongside “Mantra” , another song titled “Unconditional” by NCT’s Jaehyun, slated for release on October 24th, faced a similar fate for the same reason.

Nevertheless, songs that receive a negative review judgment can undergo edits to problematic sections and be resubmitted for re-evaluation. If the revised version meets the necessary standards, it is then eligible for broadcast.

“Mantra” , performed by Jennie and released on October 11th, has been achieving remarkable success on both local and global music charts. The song inspires listeners to embrace their uniqueness and shine in their own distinct ways.

On its debut day, “Mantra” accumulated an impressive 5,247,858 streams and made waves by landing at No.5 on Spotify’s “Daily Top Songs Global” chart. It also claimed the top spot on the real-time Bugs chart in Korea and dominated iTunes’ “Top Songs” chart in 57 countries/regions, including the U.S., Brazil, Singapore, the Philippines, and Mexico. This achievement marks Jennie as the first female K-pop solo artist to reach No.1 on the U.S. iTunes “Top Songs” chart this year. By October 17th at 2 PM, the music video had already exceeded 36 million views.

In addition, Jennie founded her own agency, OA Entertainment (Odd Atelier), last year and has since embarked on a variety of new projects.
