On May 21st, KBS responded to an article released by BBC News Korea regarding the documentary “Burning Sun: Exposing the secret K-pop chat groups.”The reporter featured in the documentary clarified that they never stated in interviews that KBS’s lawyer contacted and pressured Jung Joon-young’s victim. KBS refuted the allegation, stating that it is completely untrue.
The reporter featured in the BBC documentary clarified that they did not make any statements to the publication about KBS being involved in Jung Joon-young’s sexual crimes. In the article titled “KBS has nothing to do with Jung Joon-young’s sexual crimes”published on May 21st, the reporter stated that the statement “A KBS lawyer contacted the victim who sued Jung Joon-young”was never made during their interview with the BBC, as shown in the released video.
Furthermore, they stressed that the reporter had already clarified that the lawyer mentioned in the BBC article, who was allegedly in contact with the victim, was actually the victim’s lawyer and not a lawyer from KBS.
KBS stated, “We apologize to BBC and request that they publish a report or article to rectify the inaccuracies,”and also mentioned the possibility of pursuing legal action if the false information is not corrected.
