KBS Responds to Viewer Petition Over Article Deletion

On December 29, KBS addressed concerns raised by a viewer petition featured on its Viewer Petition Board, regarding the removal of a controversial article. The broadcaster clarified, “As we explained in previous communications, we acquired additional information that differed from the original report after the video was uploaded to YouTube. Given the varying perspectives, the decision to delete the article was aligned with our broadcasting production guidelines and internal procedures.”

KBS emphasized that their editorial process is consistent across all news reports in different sectors. “In accordance with our production guidelines and internal protocols, we engage in thorough discussions and reviews of the news content we report. If necessary, we will adjust or remove articles. KBS is dedicated to maintaining objectivity, impartiality, and fairness in reporting significant societal issues,”the statement continued.

The Petitioner’s Concerns

The petitioner, identified as Mr. Park, had previously lodged two requests for clarification regarding KBS’s decision-making process. His inquiries were specifically related to the deletion of an article titled “Min Hee-jin’s Side: ‘Tried to Stop NewJeans’ Official Statement’… HYBE Responds: ‘Regretful Towards Min.’” He insisted that KBS provide a detailed and transparent rationale for the sudden removal of the report.

Escalation of the Issue

Despite KBS’s responses to the first two petitions, the explanations provided were insufficient to appease Mr. Park, nor did they quell the concerns of numerous netizens. This dissatisfaction prompted the filing of a third petition seeking further clarification on the matter.
