Keanu Reeves expresses uncertainty about his physical ability to perform in John Wick 5

Keanu Reeves, after a vibrant shift into the animated realm with his role in Sonic 3, has tempered expectations regarding the future of the John Wick film franchise. He recently confessed that his body is beginning to protest against the physicality required for the demanding role.

Since its inception in 2014, the John Wick series has become renowned for its fever-pitched action and captivating storytelling. Reeves portrays the titular character—a skilled assassin who rises from retirement to avenge the death of his beloved pet dog. This straightforward premise has paved the way for breathtaking action sequences that have redefined the genre over the past decade, ultimately evolving into a four-part saga that impressively elevates the stakes with each installment.

With a cameo appearance slated for an upcoming flick, fans can anticipate more of Reeves in the iconic role. Yet, the actor has cast uncertainty over the possibility of participating in further high-intensity features.

Reeves Questions Future John Wick Roles

During an appearance on CBS Mornings alongside Sonic 3 director Jeff Fowler, Reeves candidly addressed his doubts about continuing in action-packed John Wick films. “You can never say never — but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” Reeves shared. “So my heart [wants to], but I don’t know if my knees can do it.”

In a lighthearted moment, Fowler joked, “Which is why you can voice Shadow for, like, decades to come — there are no physical limitations, just your voice!”

Fans have quickly rallied to support Reeves, acknowledging the toll that years of portraying such a physically demanding character must take. One Reddit user remarked, “Wow, I had no idea he was 60. Leave the poor man’s knees alone.” Another follower suggested, “It’s a great franchise, but I feel like his story is told. We’re getting Ballerina soon, if they want to keep exploring this universe (which I certainly wouldn’t say no to), they should use that as a jumping-off point. Let my man Keanu rest.”

Regardless of the future of John Wick 5, fans can be reassured that Reeves will reprise his role in the upcoming spinoff film, Ballerina. He is set to make a cameo alongside Ana de Armas, who takes the lead in this anticipated project.

Ballerina is scheduled for release in theaters on June 6, 2025.
