Kevin Costner’s Favorite Western Movie

Kevin Costner’s Favorite Western Movie

Leading up to the release of Horizon: An American Saga, Kevin Costner has disclosed his top choice for a Western film, and it happens to be a must-see starring John Wayne.

It is expected that John Wayne is the lead actor in Costner’s top Western movie. As one of the most renowned stars in the genre, the only other names that could rival his cowboy fame are Clint Eastwood, Kurt Russell, and… Kevin Costner himself.

For 30 years, Costner’s passion project has been Horizon: An American Saga. It stemmed from his deep love for the concept, which was a significant factor in his decision to leave Yellowstone, one of the most beloved Western shows of all time.

As the release of Horizon draws near, Costner has shared his top pick for the greatest Western film: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

“During a Horizon press conference on June 24, Costner expressed his admiration for “Liberty Valance,”stating that he particularly loves its writing. Additionally, he mentioned that “How the West Was Won”also greatly inspired his imagination.”

The 1962 film, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, is a collaboration between John Wayne and James Stewart. Directed by John Ford, the movie marked a return to the classic style. It centers around the recollection of Ransom Stoddard, a U.S. Senator, who publicly discloses the truth about the shooting of notorious outlaw Liberty Valance.

Following the completion of The Searchers, Ford went back to producing films in black-and-white on sound stages for Liberty Valance. Through the use of narrative flashbacks, he continued to delve into the Western genre.

In addition, Costner discussed how his childhood movie-watching experiences influenced him and how he considers the cinematic experience to be a crucial aspect of life.

As a seven-year-old, he added, I understood the true essence of movies – the fact that we willingly enter a dark room to watch them. We all experience this as children, with our parents’ permission being the only thing that allows us to go alone.

The theater was considered safe, for reasons unknown. It was where we were taught how to kiss, that’s the proper way to do it.

“We are able to distinguish between honor and cowardice, and we witness acts of great heroism as well as displays of love and compassion. Despite the artificiality of movies, there is still much to be gleaned from them. They offer insight into the kind of person we aspire to be and the kind we hope never to become.”

Mark your calendars for June 28, when Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 will hit theaters. Additionally, keep track of Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 and check out a review of Horizon Chapter 1.
