Kevin Feige’s Vision for Disney Plus Comic Book Feature Divides Marvel Fans

Kevin Feige has proposed a fresh concept for Disney+ that would incorporate the rich history of Marvel comics, but not all are convinced of its potential.

During the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Feige and Marvel editor-in-chief C.B. Cebulski came together to discuss the influence of comic books on the upcoming Marvel movies.

During their conversation, Feige suggested the possibility of adding a new feature on Disney+ where users could browse through a film and see the original comic book art that served as its inspiration. Cebulski then playfully remarked that Feige, in his role as President of Marvel Studios, could potentially make this idea a reality.

Despite the undeniable success of Marvel comics in producing some of the top superhero films in recent years, it would be a significant departure for the streaming service to permit users to directly compare a movie to its original graphic novel.

Despite not receiving unanimous support, this change has been proposed. There are concerns that utilizing comic book illustrations may lead to artists and designers not being properly credited and potentially exploiting the work of others.

According to a statement by a user of X, found on the website “https://x.com/SpicyChiliCrisp/status/1817032840401551766”: “It would be great if the creators of the comic book received royalties from it.”

“Although it sounds like a great idea, I have my doubts because I doubt the artists will receive proper credit for their artwork. If they were acknowledged, it would expose the fact that they are not being adequately compensated for their ideas.”

Some also contended that it would not be advantageous for Marvel to call attention to the source material they are basing their adaptations on.

“It was noted that if they didn’t want the movie to suffer in comparison, they shouldn’t do this.”

Despite the fact that it is currently just a suggestion, there are some who are more receptive to the idea. Marvel can take comfort in the fact that there are MCU fans who would welcome the change, even though it may never actually happen.

One user argued that it was a rare win for Kevin Feige and it’s astonishing how little recognition is given to the comic creators who are essential to the existence of the MCU.

Another person commented: “I can’t stress enough how essential this is for Disney+ MCU content. It’s surprising that it hasn’t been implemented earlier.”

Someone mentioned, “Do you recall how the Marvel Studios logo used to feature panels from the comic books instead of images from the movies at the beginning of the film?”
