Key Ability Needed to Defeat Wandering Wight in Black Myth Wukong

Wandering Wight is a boss that you have the option of encountering early on in Black Myth: Wukong, but it can be quite challenging if you decide to face it.

Black Myth: Wukong is designed with a focus on defeating bosses one after the other, with minimal breaks in between. While some bosses may be easier to defeat, others will present a challenge to players, particularly if they attempt to rush without proper preparation.

Chapter One’s Wandering Wight, found in the Forest of the Wolves near the Outside the Forest Shrine, is a formidable early boss. Its difficulty is heightened by limited skills and low HP. Nevertheless, there is one critical ability that can be used to counter it.

To defeat Wandering Wight, it is important to choose the best ability before diving into battle.

Tips for Defeating the Wandering Wight

The most advantageous ability to acquire is Resolute Counterflow in the Smash Stance. This skill allows you to consume a Focus Point and perform a Heavy Attack in between your Light Attacks, resulting in a significant amount of damage. If executed correctly, this move can cause the boss to fall, granting you a large window to launch a powerful attack.

It is important to balance your aggression when facing an early-game boss. Despite their size, these bosses have quick attacks and even one combo can result in your death due to your low early-game HP. Avoid becoming overly aggressive.

To add, it is crucial to Manage your Stamina. It is important to regularly monitor your stamina as it depletes quickly when performing heavy attacks. If you continuously use heavy attacks and exhaust your stamina, you will not be able to dodge, leaving you vulnerable to enemy attacks and potentially resulting in defeat.

The Immobilize Spell is a valuable asset in this battle. Deploy it when you are unable to evade an attack, as it will effectively interrupt any combination the boss may attempt. While the boss is stunned, take advantage and unleash a powerful Resolute Strike for significant damage.

Finally, if feasible, allocate some points towards Robust Constitution for a slight increase in health and Rampant Vigor for a slight boost in Stamina. It can be frustrating to lose a fight when the boss is only one hit away from defeat. Adding a bit more health can allow you to withstand an extra hit, while a bit more Stamina can enable you to land an additional attack.

Listed below are several key moves you will come across while battling the boss:

  • Ground Stomp: The boss will occasionally stomp the ground when you’re near it
    • Counter: Walk away or dodge whenever you see the boss raise its feet.
  • Ground Swipe: The Wandering Wight will aggressively swipe the ground and the move has a massive hit-box, so you will get hit unless you perform a perfect dodge.
    • Counter: Back-dodge or side-dodge is the best way to counter it. The boss will chain three swipes one after another, so make sure you keep dodging until the chain is over.
  • Rush down: If you try to maintain a distance from the boss, it will charge at you and perform any of the moves listed here.
    • Counter: Side-step the rush down attacks.
  • Earthquake: The boss will land three powerful punches on the ground and release massive shockwaves. Each shockwave has a bigger area of effect than its predecessor. The move ends with a fourth and final powerful shockwave.
    • Counter: Run away from the boss when you see the Earthquake attack. It’s easy to detect as the boss will stomp the ground and it will glow bright yellow. The first stomp has a very small area, so you can easily walk away to a safe distance.
  • Laser Blast: Finally, the Wandering Wight has a move where it does a hand sign and releases a blast from its palm. This blast deals massive damage and is often released as an ender to the Earthquake move.
    • Counter: Side-step the Laser Blast. The moment you see the boss’s palm glowing bright yellow, you’ll know the attack is coming.

As a final reminder, defeating Wandering Wight early on will result in its spirit dropping. However, it is not possible to capture it and it will disappear when resetting at a Shrine. Do not be concerned, as once you obtain the ability to absorb spirits, the Wandering Wight will be added to your “Cultivate Spirits”inventory.
