KFC is bringing a nostalgic twist to virtual pet care with its new product, inspired by the beloved Tamagotchi from the ’90s. This innovative gadget allows players to nurture a digital representation of fried chicken, aptly named Eduardochi.
Launch of Eduardochi in Spain
Beginning Tuesday, December 3, 2023, KFC outlets across Spain introduced Eduardochi, a Tamagotchi-like device that fans can engage with. Customers can purchase this unique digital pet for just $3.99 when they buy any item from the menu. It was first unveiled at a pop-up Chicken Store located in Madrid’s Plaza de Callao from November 26 to 28.
Features of Eduardochi
This handheld virtual pet is designed as a keychain shaped like a chicken drumstick. It features a compact digital screen and four interactive buttons, making it easy for users to feed and care for their digital delicacy.
The Origin of the Name Eduardochi
The playful name Eduardochi pays homage to a viral meme that gained traction in December 2021, where users humorously assigned Spanish names to everyday objects. During this trend, a fried drumstick was dubbed Eduardo, leading KFC to transform this meme into a marketing opportunity.
This isn’t KFC’s first foray into quirky merchandise featuring “Eduardo.”The chain previously released a limited-edition fragrance called ‘Eau D’uardo,’ reflecting the restaurant’s signature herbs and spices.
Additional Promotions and Collaborations
KFC continues to engage consumers with creative concepts, such as collaborating with Burger King in France to offer the exclusive ‘BFF Burger.’ This unique item combines fluffy sesame seed buns with fresh iceberg lettuce, cheddar cheese, a flame-grilled beef patty, and crispy fried chicken, highlighting KFC’s emphasis on innovative marketing strategies.
As the popularity of Eduardochi grows, KFC demonstrates its commitment to creating memorable experiences for its customers across various platforms.
