Kick Co-Founder Vows to Combat Content Moderation While Eradicating Illegal Activities

Co-founder Eddie Craven of Kick has pledged to challenge stringent content moderation, emphasizing the platform’s commitment to curbing illegal activities while promoting creator freedom.

Since its inception in late 2022, Kick has distinguished itself from platforms like Twitch by offering more relaxed content moderation policies. However, as the year 2024 progressed, the Stake-owned platform has tightened its approach.

In June, Kick introduced two new streaming categories—IRL and Chat Roulette—which serve to monitor potentially inappropriate content more effectively.

During a recent livestream discussion on moderation, Craven reassured viewers by stating that they would “always fight for the creator.”

“Our commitment lies with the creators,” Eddie emphasized. “We want individuals to maximize their creative output. Our goal is not to stifle content or compromise the enjoyment of the audience and the creators’ liberty to create.”

“I assure you, we will strive relentlessly to uphold this principle. Nevertheless, we must address any illegal activities that arise,” he added.

Craven further stated that Kick’s aspiration is to minimize moderation to a level far below that of other platforms like Twitch or YouTube.

“Our objective is for Kick to thrive and gain recognition as an exceptional platform. We must proceed with caution to protect our brand. I assure you, we won’t reach the moderation levels seen on other sites,” he affirmed.

This statement follows Twitch’s recent announcement of new VTuber regulations, which mandated modifications for creator avatars, igniting backlash. In response, Kick has established new guidelines that are welcoming to VTuber creators seeking to join their community.
