Kick Introduces New “Kick Currency” to Reward Viewers for Watching Streams

Adin Ross has disclosed that KICK is set to introduce a new feature called KICK Currency, allowing viewers to earn money while tuning into their favorite streamers.

Throughout the years, several platforms have attempted to challenge Twitch’s stronghold in the live-streaming landscape. Competitors such as YouTube, Facebook Gaming, and Mixer have made efforts to capture some of Twitch’s audience but have yet to succeed significantly.

KICK emerges as the latest contender, notably following Twitch’s recent restrictions on gambling streams. They’ve successfully attracted big names like xQc, Adin Ross, and Amouranth, but Twitch continues to lead the market.

This Stake-backed platform is shifting its focus to achieving profitability after an initial period of spending heavily on talent. Additionally, they appear to be considering a model that enables viewers to earn while enjoying content from their preferred streamers.

In a recent announcement, Adin Ross stated, “They’re planning on rolling out the KICK Currency that I’ve been telling you guys about.”

He elaborated, “Essentially, viewers will have the opportunity to earn money just by watching. They’re launching some exciting new features. It’s similar to Bits, which can be cashed out. While not every viewer will receive payments for watching, for example, I can distribute KICK tokens that viewers can exchange for cash.”

Twitch has offered Bits for some time, which serve a different purpose compared to standard donations and subscriptions. These Bits can be acquired and utilized in chat to show support for streamers.

KICK’s approach seems to reflect a similar strategy but is oriented more towards rewarding viewers directly rather than enhancing streamer income. No official launch date for this new feature has been shared as of yet.

Moreover, KICK is in the process of implementing various improvements to its platform. Whereas Twitch has restricted the amount of skin VTubers can display, KICK has adopted a more lenient stance in that regard.
