According to Santamaria from Kick, the platform, backed by Stake, surpasses Mixer significantly as a competitor to Twitch, largely due to the positive engagement of its community.
While Kick is emerging as a formidable rival to Twitch, it is not the first platform to challenge the Amazon-owned giant. Microsoft initially introduced Beam in 2016, later rebranding it as Mixer in 2017. This platform quickly established itself as a principal competitor to Twitch, attracting high-profile streamers such as Ninja, Shroud, King Gothalion, and theGrefg with exclusive contracts.
However, Mixer was discontinued by Microsoft in 2020, resulting in many streamers migrating to Twitch and the then-popular Facebook Gaming platform.
Since its inception in 2022, Kick has solidified its position as Twitch’s leading rival. On October 28, staff member Santamaria elaborated on what distinctly sets Kick apart from Mixer. He stated, “The key difference is that our community engages and embraces the moment actively as it happens, rather than indulging in nostalgia. The Kick community has far surpassed Mixer, which greatly motivates our team.”
How’s KICK different than Mixer? The most important difference, the community recognizes and jumps into their moment in real time. Not doing the “remember when” talk. The KICK community is already way beyond Mixer due to its attitude. This in turn inspires KICK staff. Jump…

His statement quickly gained popularity on social media, prompting numerous users to share their opinions in the comments section.
One user remarked, “Kick boasts a collective of content creators who uplift each other within the gaming community. Plus, Kick’s user interface is significantly more inviting and organized than what Mixer offered. Many of us former Mixer creators jumped ship to Kick as soon as we learned about it, and that’s encouraging.”
Another commenter added, “Kick has a deep understanding of its streamers, and streamers recognize Kick’s philosophy. Once the casual viewer catches on, Kick will become unstoppable.”
Some users expressed a desire for Kick to incorporate features from Mixer that they cherished.
One user expressed nostalgia: “While I appreciate Kick, I would gladly return to the pinnacle of Mixer with features like HypeZone, ChannelOne, and the ability to send GIFs in chat that are still unmatched anywhere. And let’s not forget about the great profile pictures in chat!”
Another mentioned, “I’d love for Kick to introduce a HypeZone category similar to Mixer’s; that could really assist numerous gaming creators.”
Whether Kick will choose to adopt any of Mixer’s beloved features remains uncertain, but they have actively enhanced the platform since its launch at the end of 2022.
