Andrew Santamaria, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Kick, is intrigued by a potential new feature that would provide viewers and streamers with additional details regarding their bans.
Despite the ongoing battle between Kick and Twitch, both platforms have been continuously introducing innovative features and concepts in their competition for dominance in the streaming industry.
Twitch recently implemented a new Discovery feature similar to TikTok, and Kick’s staff have been making an effort to be more transparent about suspensions. They are still working on finding a balance between allowing content freedom and enforcing moderation.
According to Andrew Santamaria, one of the site’s bosses, Kick is considering implementing a new ban feature to increase transparency. This is a much-needed improvement for Twitch, which has struggled with transparency in the past.
During a recent livestream, a viewer asked Santamaria to implement a feature that would inform banned streamers and their viewers of the remaining duration of the ban.
“The speaker complimented the suggestion, stating that it was a great idea to have a countdown of one, two, or four weeks for someone who gets hit with a penalty. He approved of the idea and considered it to be a beneficial approach.”
The Kick staff member assured that he would bring the suggestion to higher management to consider its implementation, playfully quipping that he might take credit for it.
“Seriously, that’s a clever idea. And if they face another ban, it will reset back to that same point. I’m unsure how our developers or other executives will react, but I personally think it’s a great solution.”
We’ll need to wait and see if Kick ultimately decides to implement this suggestion, but considering the overwhelmingly positive feedback it has received thus far, streamers on the platform may potentially gain access to even more comprehensive information regarding their bans compared to other websites.
Additionally, this would further solidify Kick’s advantage over Twitch. In fact, Dan Clancy, Twitch’s CEO, has acknowledged the flaws in their ban system and is actively seeking to revamp their strike system and provide creators with more constructive feedback.
