A streamer on Kick experienced a shocking incident in South Africa when a group of men stole his phone during a live broadcast, completely unaware that he was streaming at the time.
Kangjoel, a South Korean IRL (In Real Life) content creator with nearly 50,000 followers, has gained popularity for sharing his travel experiences globally.
While he was in Durban, South Africa, he was streaming his walk through the city during daylight hours. Viewers expressed their concern, urging him to leave the location due to safety issues and the potential for theft.
Within moments, a group of men seized his phone and fled, leading Kangjoel to yell and pursue one of the thieves.
The thieves escaped in a van, but in a twist of fate, the robber holding Kangjoel’s phone inadvertently aimed the camera at himself, still oblivious to the ongoing livestream.
This incident took place on October 25, just a day after Kangjoel had a close call with three men who attempted to rob him while he was streaming at night by the beach. Although he managed to keep his phone, Kangjoel recounted being kicked and punched during the encounter. “That guy kicked me and then punched me. But I kept grabbing my phone. I pulled tight, and he fell off and ran away,”he shared.

Commenters on the October 26 video reflected on how Kangjoel might have avoided losing his phone had he heeded his viewers’ warnings. “Those anonymous donors could’ve saved his phone if he actually listened to them,” remarked one viewer.
“OMG, this happened right after he was warned!!!” exclaimed another. “He should’ve taken that advice,” a third commented, highlighting a viewer’s warning that he could “get hurt, robbed, or possibly stabbed.”
This isn’t the first robbery experience Kangjoel has faced in South Africa; last year, during a live stream, a woman snatched his tripod and ran off.
