On March 14, Kim Soo-hyun‘s agency, Gold Medalist, issued a statement clarifying the timeline of his relationship with actress Kim Sae-ron. The agency confirmed that they were in a relationship from the summer of 2019 until the fall of 2020, and firmly denied any claims suggesting that the two dated while Kim Sae-ron was a minor.
Gold Medalist also addressed concerning text messages sent by Kim Sae-ron to Kim Soo-hyun, which included pleas for help with words like “Save me” and promises to “pay it back step by step.”

The agency explained their motivation behind sending proof of these communications was to alleviate any financial obligations from the deceased, emphasizing the potential legal ramifications. They noted, “If the company were to unfairly cover the financial penalties that Kim Sae-ron is liable for, it could expose company executives to breach of trust allegations. Additionally, there are concerns surrounding whether expenses should be classified as company losses.”
Gold Medalist elaborated on the complexities involved in their accounting audit related to Kim Sae-ron. They indicated that legal and accounting firms advised against writing off Kim Sae-ron’s debt as bad debt without attempts at collection, as this might be seen as the company relinquishing her obligations. This situation raises significant questions about potential financial damage and trust violations by the executives.

In a commentary on YTN News, lawyer Lee Go-eun remarked, “Assuming the authenticity of the text messages, it appears that the agency was not insisting on immediate repayment.” She raised critical questions regarding the agency’s position as a victim of breach of trust. Lee noted that for Kim Sae-ron to be held legally accountable, the agency would need to initiate a complaint—without this, the breach of trust allegations remain ambiguous.
Lee further suggested, “While it’s essential for an accountant to pursue payment and address the situation, the agency’s position seems contradictory. They claim to have provided proof to mitigate a breach of trust risk while still being considerate of Kim Sae-ron’s circumstances. However, from a legal standpoint, the agency’s claim lacks convincing weight unless they take definitive legal action.”
