Gold Medalist Addresses Allegations Regarding Kim Soo-hyun’s Absence from Kim Sae-ron’s Funeral
On March 18, 2025, Gold Medalist, the agency representing renowned actor Kim Soo-hyun, issued a statement in response to accusations surrounding his non-attendance at the funeral of actress Kim Sae-ron. These allegations originated from an individual purporting to be Kim Sae-ron’s aunt, who publicly criticized both the agency and Kim Soo-hyun, describing him as “cold-hearted” towards his former partner.
In their official statement, Gold Medalist refuted the claims, clarifying, “While the bereaved family asserts that our company did not attend the funeral, we were present on February 17 and 19, 2025. During this time, we expressed our condolences personally, provided funeral wreaths, and contributed condolence funds.” They reinforced their position by offering photographic evidence of the wreaths, although the statement did not clarify whether Kim Soo-hyun himself attended the funeral events.
Furthermore, Gold Medalist raised questions about the legitimacy of the individual claiming to be Kim Sae-ron’s aunt, positing that she may not be a direct family member but rather a family friend. The agency remarked, “Often, when someone claims to be an aunt of Kim Sae-ron, it suggests they are the biological sister of her mother. The credibility of information shared through media outlets can vary significantly depending on whether the source is a genuine relative or simply an acquaintance. The bereaved family did not clarify the identity of the informant during the press conference.”
Despite these developments, the family insists that this person had a long-standing relationship with Kim Sae-ron and had visited the agency with her on multiple occasions. Additionally, Gold Medalist dismissed speculation that a man in a red shirt seen in a widely shared photo was Kim Soo-hyun, asserting that he had never been to Kim Sae-ron’s home. Initially silent on the matter, the bereaved family shifted their narrative following the emergence of the contentious photograph on social media.
This unfolding situation has ignited broader conversations about the responsibilities of entertainment agencies and artists when it comes to handling personal relationships and the subsequent public perceptions that arise from them.
