On the 16th, actor Kim Woo-bin appeared on the talk show “Salty Brother,” hosted by Shin Dong-yup, where he openly discussed his battle against cancer.

Kim Woo-bin was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017 and achieved remission in 2019. His co-star in the Netflix series Officer Black Belt, Shin Dong-kyu, expressed his astonishment at Kim Woo-bin’s ability to conceal his pain, stating, “Woo-bin never showed his suffering, but it was truly shocking.”

Throughout his cancer battle, which included chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Kim Woo-bin shared that being told he had only six months to live was both startling and intimidating.

Despite the fear that accompanied this news, Kim Woo-bin chose not to focus on the possibility of defeat. He viewed his situation as an opportunity for reflection and personal growth, even if that perspective didn’t come immediately, and he remained committed to his treatment.

Kim Woo-bin considered his illness as a gift from the heavens to “reflect and spend time with family” after not having a break for over ten years since his debut. He recognized the vital support he received from friends and family, noting that despite the physical challenges of treatment, the encouragement and prayers he received due to his public profile significantly impacted his well-being.

His optimistic mindset played a crucial role in his recovery, surprising even medical professionals. He expressed a desire to share his gratitude and support with others, describing it as a “task of the heart,” and admitted that it took courage to communicate his feelings, especially to his parents.

Kim Woo-bin’s diagnosis of nasopharyngeal cancer came shortly after he publicly confirmed his relationship with actress Shin Min-Ah in 2015, leading to a wave of sympathy from fans. Thanks to Shin Min-Ah’s care and the support of those around him, he was declared cancer-free in 2019.

Recently, Kim Woo-bin’s agency, AM Entertainment, made a significant charitable donation of 100 million won to Seoul Asan Medical Center to aid underprivileged patients. Kim Woo-bin is also known for his consistent charitable contributions aimed at supporting pediatric cancer patients.

In a similar vein, Shin Min-Ah donated around 300 million won to Seoul Asan Medical Center and other charities last year. Her charitable contributions have now exceeded a total of 3.7 billion won.
