Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Fans Applaud First Look at “Incredible” Non-Ape Cut

The first look at the unedited, non-ape version of the movie included in the 4K Blu-ray edition of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has impressed fans.

The highly anticipated Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was released in May 2024 and received widespread critical acclaim, adding to the success of the Planet of the Apes franchise’s reboots. Following its release, it was revealed that a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray edition would be available in August 2024, featuring the full unedited version of the film.

The version known as the “raw cut”would showcase the actors wearing motion capture suits while filming on authentic sets. This footage would be presented alongside the final version, providing viewers with the opportunity to see the extensive effort put into bringing the world of the apes to life.

This will mark the first occasion where an entire film has been unveiled in this manner, as director Wes Ball expressed [via Entertainment Weekly]: “During the later stages of post-production, I realized how amazing it would be to involve fans like myself in this process – those who enjoy getting a glimpse into the world of movie production.”

The unedited footage from the new special feature has been released ahead of the Blu-ray’s availability for purchase on August 27, 2024. Fans have been stunned by the clip, which has already made its way onto social media.

One X user expressed: “I am grateful for the VFX artists who bring movie magic to life.”

“Another person expressed their disbelief that not a single one of the new Planet of the Apes movies has won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.”

The addition of this new special feature has left fans craving similar content in other VFX-heavy films. As one user commented, “I hope all movies come with a DVD extra that showcases the entire film like this.”

“I would personally be interested in watching a complete version of each film that heavily uses special effects, just to see how the actors performed while wearing motion capture suits,”expressed another individual (https://x.com/DeclanSargent/status/1827295711915876860).

On X, 20th Century Studios President Steve Asbell stated: “It required an excessive amount of negotiation and dedication from numerous individuals at the studio to obtain clearance and complete this unique feature for the 4k release. We are extremely appreciative of their hard work and thrilled that you all have the opportunity to witness @wesball and Weta’s remarkable vision!”

The release date for the Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes Blu-ray is set for August 27.
