Among the human characters in Chainsaw Man, Kishibe stands out as one of the most cherished. While he may seem relatively normal—claiming only slightly behind Kobeni Higashiyama in terms of ordinariness—Kishibe is widely regarded as one of the most formidable Devil Hunters in the narrative. His introduction to the audience came as he was entrusted by Makima with the responsibility of training Power and Denji.

As a critical supporting figure in Chainsaw Man Part I, Kishibe made appearances throughout nearly all the story arcs until he ultimately disappeared, transferring Nayuta to Denji. Since that event, he has not reappeared in Part II, though Quanxi has mentioned his name. Fans have started to speculate that Kishibe may have been present all along, which gives rise to an intriguing theory.

According to the prevailing theory, Kishibe and Hirofumi Yoshida may, in fact, be the same individual. It’s notable that these two characters had a history prior to the International Assassins Arc; their interactions were reminiscent of a friendship, and they possessed strikingly similar knowledge. The key distinction is that Kishibe was aware of Makima’s secrets, while Yoshida was not. Kishibe frequently alluded to his age, while Yoshida claimed to be out of sync with current times.

This leads to the hypothesis that Kishibe made a pact with the Aging Devil, resulting in the existence of Yoshida. It is suggested that this contract created a clone of Kishibe in the realm of the Aging Devil, who drew its life force from him as he navigated the real world. Yoshida is depicted in a garden, dressed in an all-black outfit that echoes the old Public Safety uniform, and his hairstyle and accessories bear a resemblance to Kishibe’s.

Moreover, it is theorized that Kishibe began to age once Yoshida escaped the garden, effectively breaking their contract and leaving Kishibe with only three Devil contracts remaining. Numerous clues point to the idea that Kishibe and Yoshida are linked, including the fact that Yoshida has consistently sought to assist Denji; he implored Denji to protect Nayuta rather than succumb to transforming into Chainsaw Man, and he refrained from sedating Denji when he was captured, even offering an apology instead.

For example, Kishibe’s physical features do not include the moles visible on Yoshida, as he bears scars in similar areas. Normally, a clone would share identical characteristics. Furthermore, there is no clear rationale for why the Aging Devil would create a replica of Kishibe to reside in its garden.

Additionally, Devils thrive on fear rather than simply needing energy or life force; aging, a notion that universally triggers fear in humans to some extent, complicates the theory further. An alternative interpretation could propose that Kishibe and Yoshida are merely friends whose encounter with the Aging Devil resulted in Yoshida’s entrapment in the context introduced in chapter 180, as he managed to escape while Kishibe did not age.
