Kishibe’s Stance on Makima in Chainsaw Man: An Explanation

Kishibe, a character in Chainsaw Man, quickly gained a devoted fan base after his introduction. He was recruited by Makima during the Katana Man Arc to train Denji and Power as a veteran Devil Hunter. He continues to make appearances in later arcs of Chainsaw Man, although in mostly supportive roles.

Despite being one of the many who have interacted with Makima, Kishibe stands out due to his unique relationship with her. Unlike others, he appears to be immune to her influence. In fact, he even expressed doubt and suspicion towards her, confronting her about the supposed attack on Division 4 and accusing her of lying.

As the leader of the special task force established to defeat Makima, Kishibe was not opposed to her as long as she remained on the side of humanity. This may come as a surprise to some.

Despite the lack of information in the anime or manga, the details of how Kishibe and Makima crossed paths remain a mystery. However, their interactions as Public Safety Devil Hunters indicate a strong level of trust and recognition of each other’s abilities. Makima holds Kishibe in high regard, recognizing him as the most skilled and experienced member of their team.

Despite his straightforwardness with her, he also sympathized with her unpleasant behavior. He was aware that the government had raised her to be ruthless, stern, and uncompromising.

Despite this, Kishibe likely remained cautious around her. He was one of the rare individuals who were not under her influence, making him more valuable to her in that state.

As previously stated, Kishibe did not have a direct opposition to Makima, but he was certainly cautious of her. He harbored doubts about her motives. After the assault on Division 4, he confronted her, claiming she had knowledge of it, to which she simply smirked. It was then that he denounced her as a liar and declared that her actions did not matter as long as she remained loyal to Humanity.

During the Control Devil Arc, Kishibe recognized her as a formidable force and was aware of the necessary actions to take in case things went awry. As a result, he fearlessly led a task force to defeat Makima and bravely confronted her about her true motives and past actions.

Throughout the narrative, it becomes apparent that Kishibe maintains a certain distance from Makima. Although he does not constantly monitor her actions, he stays informed about her activities when necessary. In fact, he even teams up with her, in a way, to protect Denji during the International Assassins Arc.

Without a doubt, Kishibe stands out as a truly exceptional character in Chainsaw Man. Makima’s respect for him and her decision to assign him the responsibility of training Power and Denji serve as evidence of his exceptional abilities and extensive experience as a Devil Hunter. Furthermore, his resistance to Makima’s manipulation only solidifies his reputation as one of the most powerful Devil Hunters.

The freedom he had allowed him to see Makima for who she truly was. Despite feeling that there was something off about her, he held back while she worked for the humans. However, as soon as details about her came to light, he wasted no time in spearheading the effort to bring her down.
