Crunchyroll first showcased the North American debut of the film at the Fantasia International Film Festival on July 27, 2024, as part of the Animation Plus category. The Kizumonogatari: Koyomi Vamp anime film had its initial release in Japanese cinemas on January 12, 2024, and was a compilation of the three original films.

Kizumonogatari: Koyomi Vamp to Screen in Select Theaters for One Day Only

The trailer for the Kizumonogatari: Koyomi Vamp anime film, which runs for approximately 90 seconds, does not appear to showcase any fresh scenes or dialogue from the initial trailer. The only alteration appears to be the inclusion of English subtitles, as a means of promoting the movie’s international release.

The movie is a combination of the three original films in the series, titled Part 1: Tekketsu, Part 2: Nekketsu, and Part 3: Reiketsu. These were all released in Japanese theaters in January 2016, August 2016, and January 2017, respectively. The films are based on the third volume of the Monogatari light novel series by author Nisio Isin and illustrator Vofan, which has been ongoing since August 2005 and currently has 29 volumes published.

Kizumonogatari is a prequel to the Bakemonogatari series, chronicling the events that lead to the transformation of the main character, Koyomi, into a vampire. The film portrays his initial encounter with the female vampire who turns him, and his subsequent struggles to readjust to his former human life.

The original film trilogy at the SHAFT anime studio was directed by Tatsuya Oishi, who also directed the Bakemonogatari anime series. Akiyuki Simbo was credited as the chief director of the production, while Akio Watanabe and Hideyuki Morioka designed the characters. The sound for the series was directed by Yota Tsuruoka, with Satoru Kousaki composing the music.

The most recent addition to the Kizumonogatari anime film series, Koyomi Vamp, once again features French singer-songwriter Clémentine as the performer of its ending theme song. Previously, Clémentine had sung “Étoile et toi,” which translates to “The Star and Me” , for the second installment, Nekketsu. Additionally, she provided a new rendition of the same song for the third film, Reiketsu.

The film’s cast features Hiorshi Kamiya as Koyomi Araragi, Maaya Sakamoto as Kissshot Acerolaorion Heartunderblade, Hochu Ohtsuka as Guillotine Cutter, Masashi Ebara as Dramaturgy, Miyu Irino as Episode, Takahiro Sakurai as Meme Oshino, and Yui Horie as Tsubasa Hanekawa. Aniplex of America has obtained the international distribution rights for the film, while Crunchyroll is responsible for its theatrical release.
