Despite the eccentricities of the other characters in Chainsaw Man, Kobeni Higashiyama stands out as the most ordinary.
Afterwards, she worked at a restaurant during the day before once again finding herself immersed in the world of Devils. Unlike other Devil Hunters, it remains a mystery as to which Devil she is contracted with. However, she still remains the most ordinary among them. This has sparked speculation among fans about who her potential love interest could be, or if she even has one.
The straightforward explanation is that Kobeni Higashiyama is not romantically involved in Chainsaw Man and is simply striving for a regular, tranquil existence.
Chainsaw Man: Kobeni Higashiyama’s Lack of Romantic Interest
Kobeni Higashiyama
Kobeni, like most characters in the Chainsaw Man series, is single and has no romantic interest. Throughout the progression of the manga, there has been no solid evidence of her being romantically interested in anyone or engaging in any secretive relationships. From what has been revealed about her, Kobeni simply desires to distance herself from Devil Hunting.
Despite wanting to attend college, Kobeni ultimately chose to become a Devil Hunter under pressure from her parents. They wanted her to work and support her brother’s education, and she was given the option of becoming either a Devil Hunter or an escort. Despite her desire to go to college, she ultimately joined Public Safety as a Devil Hunter.
Kobeni remains shrouded in mystery
Despite being a supporting character, Kobeni remains largely enigmatic. However, there are certain details that are known about her. She is generally shy and reserved, with occasional displays of courage. When faced with pressure, she tends to crumble easily, as seen in the Eternity Devil Arc.
It is evident that she is not at ease with showing affection in public, as demonstrated by her discomfort when Himeno embraces her and her enjoyment of alcohol, especially when someone else foots the bill. Her pastime is indulging in delicious food and she has only been able to savor the taste of ice cream three times in her life.
Additionally, the identity of the Devil that Kobeni has formed a contract with remains a mystery. It has been speculated that she may be contracted with one of the following Devils: the Black Cat Devil, the Famine Devil, the Misfortune Devil, or the Death Devil.
The Theme of Romance in Chainsaw Man
Although Tatsuki Fujimoto’s series does not heavily prioritize the theme of Romance, it primarily centers on Power in various forms such as political, financial, and supernatural abilities. It falls under the genre of Action with elements of Dark Fantasy. However, Fujimoto does tantalize fans with a twisted kind of romance for the main character, Denji.
Denji encountered two female characters, namely Makima and Reze, in different situations. Makima utilized her charm to manipulate Denji, knowing its impact on him. Although Reze may have developed feelings for Denji, she had actually arrived in Japan with the intention of assassinating him. However, when she ultimately chooses to escape with him, she finds herself in a confrontation with Makima, resulting in her demise.
Currently, Denji’s only opportunity for genuine romance is with Asa Mitaka. His past encounters with the opposite sex have skewed his perception of dating. Nevertheless, Asa’s entrance into his life could be the solution he’s been searching for. Additionally, Asa appears to be the secondary protagonist in Part 2, suggesting a possible link between the two.
