The seventh episode of Konosuba season 3 began with Kazuma Sato and his companions receiving their 300 million eris prize for defeating Sylvia, a high-ranking member of the Devil King’s army, as shown in the main film. A week later, Kazuma and Aqua were spotted indulging in their luxurious lifestyle, causing mischief at fancy restaurants and causing disturbances during their meals.

Despite their efforts, the two ultimately found themselves in an embarrassing situation, clearly not fitting in with the luxurious lifestyle they were pretending to have. Meanwhile, back at home, Megumin was teasing Darkness by the fireplace, much to the horror of Kazuma and Aqua. Megumin attempted to explain the situation, but in reality, she was simply helping Darkness train for the upcoming endurance competition.

In episode 7 of Konosuba season 3, Kazuma used Darkness’ restraints to finally get back at her before releasing her. Later, Aqua was shown holding a mysterious egg that she claimed was a dragon egg. She explained that a man had given it to her when she was alone at home, recognizing her for her bravery in fighting against the Devil King’s army.

In addition, he cautioned her about some “factors,”ultimately exposing the fact that Aqua had purchased it with the money she had on hand that day. Despite being aware that she had been tricked, she boldly declared her plan to name the dragon Emperor Zel. When they reached Wiz and Vanir’s shop, Aqua argued her reasoning with Kazuma in her usual childish manner.

In Konosuba season 3 episode 7, Vanir gave Kazuma his share of the profits from their recent business venture. It was also revealed that Wiz was overworking herself due to the success of the business. Vanir had purposely filled her schedule to the max to prevent her from getting into any trouble and to ensure the shop’s continued prosperity, leaving her with no time for meals or rest.

After two weeks of this, she started experiencing sudden outbursts, rendering her unsuitable for customer service and requiring her to take a break. Kazuma describes this as cruel, and Vanir approaches Darkness and cautions her about the looming threat of destruction. He then offers to give her a reading, inquiring about her recent behavior.

After Konosuba season 3 episode 7, it became clear that Darkness had been deceitful in her previous answers and eventually confessed the truth. Vanir, who wasn’t even present, seemed to have knowledge of the situation, causing Darkness to apologize tearfully. However, in a humorous twist, it was revealed that the questions were not relevant to the reading, and the real reading began shortly after.

Vanir stated that Darkness’ residence and father were fated to experience misfortune and warned that she may act recklessly and destructively in an attempt to resolve the situation. However, he made it clear that her efforts would be futile and advised her to leave everything behind and escape.

In the seventh episode of Konosuba season 3, Darkness appeared to reject the idea and stated that she would be visiting her father instead since the team would not be accepting any quests for the time being. Vanir then advised Kazuma not to waste his payment and to reinvest it in the shop, emphasizing that this would be the wisest decision. He also mentioned that although Darkness may not be able to change her fate, Kazuma could potentially help her with his efforts.

Darkness approached Kazuma and offered him a bounty for slaying a monster known as a Kowloon Hydra. Despite her efforts to persuade him, Kazuma was not convinced as they did not need the money. Sensing that she had something in mind, Darkness suggested that she would reward him with a kiss on the cheek after completing the quest. However, Kazuma humorously declined, deeming it insufficient motivation.

The seventh episode of Konosuba’s third season witnessed Darkness’s initial anger towards a hydra, causing her to turn to Kazuma for help. Despite being visibly troubled by the creature, she convinced Kazuma to join her and they brought Megumin and Aqua to the lake where the hydra was located. Aqua then purged the lake in an attempt to lure the hydra out, which proved to be successful.

Kazuma and his companions were filled with terror at the enormity of the hydra, especially knowing that Megumin was unable to use her explosion magic with Aqua in its grasp. As Darkness gazed at the creature with a horrified expression, it became clear that she had a hidden reason for her reaction. As the episode came to a close, Lord Alderp could be seen laughing while studying a painting that bore a striking resemblance to Darkness.

In review

Despite providing some insight into the direction of the latter half of the season, Konosuba season 3 episode 7 manages to maintain the same level of enjoyment throughout. True to its comedic and character-driven nature, this setup episode never feels dull or lacking.

While it is true that a significant portion of this progression centers around Darkness, who is portrayed as an independent woman who defies destiny, the execution remains highly effective and skillful in light of the multitude of elements present in the episode beyond this particular narrative.

In summation

Despite some shortcomings, Konosuba’s seventh episode of season 3 effectively sets the stage for an exciting finale that will most likely involve a confrontation with Lord Alderp. Although this showdown may not occur for a few more weeks, the show is building up multiple intriguing storylines to keep viewers captivated until then.
