Korean Celebrities Pay Tribute at Funeral of Legendary K-drama Star Kim Soo-mi from “Evil Mother In Law”

On the morning of October 27th, a memorial service was held for the beloved Kim Soo-mi at Hanyang University Hospital, located in Seongdong-gu, Seoul. Among those present were her husband, Jung Chang-gyu, their son, CEO Jung Myung-ho, daughter-in-law and actress Seo Hyo-rim, along with her granddaughter, as well as numerous colleagues from the entertainment sector who shared a close bond with her.

A Christian service honored the late actress, with notable pallbearers including comedians and television personalities Jung Joon-ha, Yoon Jung-soo, and Jang Dong-min, alongside Moon Tae-joo, the producer of Soo-mi’s Side Dishes. As the coffin was carried in, the atmosphere was heavy with mourning. Jung Joon-ha was seen dabbing his eyes with a handkerchief, Yoon Jung-soo wore a look of deep sorrow, while Jang Dong-min struggled to contain his tears.

The portrait displayed during the service was a photo from the 2011 film Late Blossom, showcasing her radiant smile, a reminder of her spirited character. Her daughter-in-law, Seo Hyo-rim, who affectionately referred to her as “Mom,” exclaimed through tears, “Mom, I’m sorry, please don’t go,” and “How could you leave us after enduring everything?” as others nearby, including actresses Lee Sook and Kim Na-eun, shared in her grief.

Throughout the wake, many of Kim Soo-mi’s close friends and colleagues from the entertainment industry came to offer their condolences. Notable attendees included actors Shin Hyun-joon, Yum Jung-ah, Jo In-sung, Choi Ji-woo, Park Eun-soo, Kim Yong-gun, the duo Yoo Dong-geun and Jeon In-hwa, Seo Ji-hye, and Kim Hyung-joon, along with the comedian Yoo Jae-suk. Floral tributes from actors such as Kim Hye-soo, Lee Deok-hwa, Han Chae-ah, Hong Soo-hyun, Park Jung-chul, Ham Eun-jung, and singers Joo Hyun-mi and Lim Young-woong adorned the venue.

Others who also paid their respects included actress Kim Young-ok, Kang Bu-ja, Yoon Hyun-sook, Hyun Young, Ha Ri-soo, Chef Jung Ji-sun, and the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, Yoo In-chon.

Born in 1949, Kim Soo-mi made her acting debut through MBC’s third open recruitment in 1970. She was discovered deceased at her residence on October 25th, passing away at the age of 75 due to hyperglycemic shock. Kim Soo-mi’s final resting place has been established at the Honors Stone in Yongin Park, located in Gyeonggi Province.
