On May 14, Xportnews announced that TWICE’s Dahyun has been cast as the female lead Shen Chia-yi in the Korean adaptation of the movie “You Are the Apple of My Eye”. B1A4’s Jin Young will star as the male lead, Ko Ching-teng.
According to reports from Sports Donga, Dahyun is the first member of the girl group Twice to explore acting opportunities since the group’s formation in 2015. It was announced that she would be cast in an independent feature film directed by Lee Seung-hoon, which centers around individuals chasing their aspirations.
Dahyun’s fellow actor, Jung Jin Young, who is 32 years old, is a member of B1A4 and is also recognized for his performances in various films and dramas. He has taken on supporting roles in popular works such as “Moonlight Drawn by Clouds”, “Police University”, “Love in the Moonlight”, “The Dude in Me”, and “Sweet Home 2”.
Despite receiving attention in 2018, the Japanese version of the film, featuring Yuki Yamada and Asuka Saito, was met with criticism for not living up to the quality of the original. Viewers felt that the remake was too long and lacked emotional depth, with lackluster performances, particularly in scenes that required strong inner emotions. While there were some alterations made to the relationships between the friends, they were not enough to sway viewers.
After the main cast for the Korean version was announced, discussions arose among viewers. Some viewers expressed their belief that Dahyun’s appearance did not capture the youthful and innocent charm portrayed by Michelle Chen, leading to doubts about her acting skills.
Several viewers on Weibo left critical comments regarding the casting choices for the upcoming film. Some expressed concerns about the actors’ abilities to portray the characters, stating that their appearances did not match the role and that they were not suitable choices. Others questioned the decision to cast idols in the film and questioned whether the actors, especially 32-year-old Jin Young, were the right fit for their respective roles.
At the same time, there are those who eagerly anticipate the pairing and have shared their thoughts, saying, “I believe the female lead is a good fit. While I can’t comment on her acting abilities, Dahyun’s warm smile has a friendly quality and she could effortlessly portray the beautiful yet distant classmate, even without makeup.”
Currently, this information has not been confirmed by JYP Entertainment, the agency of Dahyun.
Similarly, the movie “You Are the Apple of My Eye”is widely regarded as a timeless example of school romance films. It was based on a novel with the same title and debuted in 2011.
