On October 22nd, Kwon Mina released a comprehensive statement addressing several controversies that have surrounded her.
In response to claims that she had taken her ex-boyfriend from another woman, Kwon Mina clarified, “I was informed that he had broken up with his girlfriend, which led me to start a relationship with him. However, I later discovered that he was secretly involved with both of us. When a post emerged claiming he was dating me while still with her, I confronted him, and he assured me they were no longer together.”
She elaborated, “At that moment, I felt compelled to trust my boyfriend’s words. I even recorded our discussion, but I’m unsure if that recording still exists as it’s with an acquaintance of mine. When I eventually learned the truth, I reached out to apologize to the other woman, her family, and even to my ex-boyfriend’s parents.”
Regarding the incident involving alleged mistreatment of a nurse, Kwon Mina clarified, “The nurse spoke to me quite harshly over the phone, which upset me, so we arranged to meet and discuss our issues. I didn’t cause her to be fired, and we were able to resolve the situation.”
Concerning the hotel room smoking controversy, she admitted, “I sincerely apologize. I had booked a smoking room and was unaware that smoking was prohibited. Sharing that photo was a considerable error. I paid a fine of 300,000 won and expressed my remorse.”
Kwon Mina also addressed the long-standing allegations of bullying, verbal harassment, and physical abuse from former AOA member Jimin in 2020. “I lashed out at her because I had endured physical abuse, emotional pain, and suffering for a decade. I was continuously insulted and demeaned. I remain puzzled as to why it occurred. Following the end of my contract, my frustrations erupted. After ten years of tolerance, I simply needed to express my anger.”
She added, “However, my response was excessive… While I cannot share every detail of my experiences, I believed my actions were warranted at that time. In retrospect, it was a hasty decision. The self-harm images I posted were also extreme, and I regret that so many young fans witnessed them. I’ve inflicted too much stress on the public, and I won’t further discuss this matter. My focus will be on moving ahead.”
Earlier that day, Kwon Mina revealed that she had recently rekindled her friendship with former AOA member Choa, reflecting on their shared experiences in the group.
Both Kwon Mina and Choa debuted with AOA in 2012. Choa departed from the group in 2017, while Kwon Mina left in 2019.
In 2020, shortly after her exit, Kwon Mina exposed the prolonged bullying she faced from AOA’s leader, Jimin, which sparked significant controversy. Consequently, Jimin left the group but later returned as a solo artist.
